I didn't realize there was a model available of this plane. I saw a full-scale at the Historic Aircraft Restoration Museum at Creve Coeur Airport in St Louis. Man, when they say flying boat, they meant it. The fuse looked like a large dinghy with sponsons and a wing and tail. The wheels had a big crank in the cockpit to pivot them forward or down. It was about as basic a plane as you could imagine.

Sorry the pics aren't better, the plane was in the rear of the hangar and it was a bit dark.

Hi!
Is it the old Radio Modeller plan you are using?
That Sh-2 has been on my "to do"-list for many years, but every winter some more urgent project has turned up.
Please post pictures and information about your build. It appears to be a very nice model.
If I remember correctly the author of the article never used the aircraft to in the wet. Are you planning to do that? If so, please let me know how it performs as a seaplane.

RE: Shavrov SH-2

HI Khodges.....thanks for the pics.... I have had the plan for a number of years and just decided I need to build a water plane. Have always thought one would be fun ,but you know always something else gets in the road. So now is the time. Have a flying mate who is keen on a water plane as well so a bit more of a reason to get one done.Yes it is a very basic aircraft from the 1930,but had a heap of uses when used in Russia. 60 in wing and powered by .25 OS.

Hi RedB yes the plan is from radio modeller and the builder never got to use it on the water when he did the article....I intend to use on land and water, that is what attracted me to it. I also like scratch building as it gives me something different from all the kits and ARF . Hope to start in the new year so might do a bit of a build up on the RC forum. I have the engine, R/C gear and tanks already
thanks guys....

The enclosed pictures may come in handy for your build. I collected them some years ago when planning the build. Hopefully your Sh-2 will be a faster build than mine... :-)

Thanks Red B....that is more likely the colours I will do mine...but you never know things do change over time. Sometimes my builds are fast but not always depends what else is on at the same time. Just trying to get a large Zero finished which has been on the go for ....what.... 17 years..yes that is correct.. but have built 9 other aircraft inbetween. At the moment flying rotory wing.A good challange.....cheers..

EDIT1: WARNING !!! THE RCM PLAN HAS WRONG ANGLES ON WING , STAB AND WRONG PROFILE, BE SURE TO CORRECT IT BEFORE BUILDING!!!!!!!!!!! USE THE ANGLES FRON THIS 4 ANGLE VIEW ATTACHED TO THIS REPLY !!!!!!

Hi, i will join this thread.
I choose the shavrow free plan from RCM downloaded from aerofred ..
Opted for the electro conversion, as I didnt have 4ccm engine.
now in the building process
found that the front section had to have more formers and the tail also and added some spruce 3x3mm to stabilize it
due to fact, that blue foam is not available in europe, i had to use hard EPS, that might have a different weight

You are making excellent progress! You might want to give updates from time to time in the Golden Era Aircraft Brotherhood thread this airplane without a doubt qualifies as Golden Era!

They won't and some of them will probably join us over here.

it not like that :) i give it 2 hours a day, after kids went to bed ... I am not afraid to use band saw, band sander, make metal templates for the ribs to be made all on one pass. Epoxys are 5 min, and CA glue immediate. So no time consuming actions happens ..

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2196303
yesterday I added some carbon reinforcements for the middle section just to be sure it will hold :)

But I am little confused about this section. it says stub wing spar in brass box. I am not sure how it is supposed to look like. If it is meant to be detachable with a stick pointing out from the fuselage and how it is supposed to be fixed in place.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2196302

BigTeeEldorado 01-11-2017 07:06 AM

It looks to me like the stub wing is mostly foam with a T-shaped root rib and spar. The root rib has two dowel pins for locating it against the fuselage and a bracket sticking out the bottom with a screw hole to screw it to the side of the fuse. There are some pictures and drawings at the beginning of this thread that might help you visualize what your trying to accomplish.

Building without instructions always leaves room for interpretation and the best part is you get to.......IMPROVISE and MODIFY......my two favorite words. ;)

FlyerInOKC 01-11-2017 08:02 AM

It looks like the spar extends into the fuselage into a piece of brass channel mounted on the back of F3 if I read it correctly.

hipik634 01-11-2017 09:17 AM

I think i would do it more like a scale plane, so i would do a small adjacent quarter stabs firmly mounted to the fuse and then removable stabs.
I am thinking also about foldable wings as original ..
The gear would be also movable to both positions ..

FlyerInOKC 01-11-2017 09:55 AM

That's a lot of work but worth it!

so I went a little further today ... used a little carbon and ply to make the middle section, that solved the connection problem. Is it what you call improvization BigTee :) ? :)
I also removed the foam from the back section, as i see it without effect after adding the beams. And I made another test fit ... as the wings are complete. I would have to make the lower connection points for struts and think about the gear ..
