GP Floats on GP 60 Cub
I'm ready to give my glassed 60 floats a final coat of resin, after which I'll be ready to prime and paint.
This is my first RC project, but I've come a long way. Here is my understanding of the detailing process... 1. Prime the floats 2. Add panel line tape 3. Add rivets by using a syringe and elmers white glue 4. Prime 5. Prime 6. Remove panel line tape 7. Paint over rivets with silver paint 8. Paint with aluminum colour A couple of questions... 1. Where can I get my hands on a few excellent photos (close-ups) of some aluminum floats so that I can use them as a guide for rivets and panel lines? 2. Where do I get a syringe? 3. Is elmers the best for making rivets? 4. Do I need to seal the floats after they are painted? Cheez |
Giant EDO floats on Hanger 9 CUB -Custom
Hi Cheez-
I have built several floats on CUB projects, and have had a great deal of success finding scale photos, browsing the web looking at sites for "Dehavilland Beaver", as a source. Many owners and brokers, have detailed photos on their websites. Here's another: if you are in Canada, aren't there a lot of "Fishing Lodges" that advertise "flying into" basecamp? Check out their websites. As for myself, here's a 1/4 Sc. CUB-Float project from last summer, that mentioned earlier. I fly it on Long Island Sound, here in New York. The struts are 3/16 dia, the cross braces are hardwood. The floats are 46 inch IKON Northwest, made for giant 1/4 scale CUBS. They were covered in 0.5 o.z. cloth and painted (using paint brush) with waterbased "Polyurethane" from a can. Spray painted with Krylon Paint; Primer, then, Glossy White- about 3 coats. Have had nothing but admiration. Good Luck. Jim Soque ***for photos, click on gallery, below -giving it a try now/ or email me and I will send: [email protected]*** |

just a pragmatic note: Elmer's glue is NOT waterproof.
