First Time Floater
 

Hello All,
I have just bought my first set of floats, a set of Great Planes Sport Floats. Any opinions or tips on building. Also are these floats decent for float flying. I am planning to put them on a .40 size trainier. Any pointers on flying with floats would be greatly appreciated.

There's other stuff there that you may find useful.

Build your GP Floats as light as you possibly can. They're good floats but they tend to be heavy. And with any hollow floats, provide a drain hole.

Witch trainer and what engine are you using? I've seen trainers with wood floats like this that were too heavy to get off the water. This was with plain bearing engines. If you have a BB engine that is a strong runner, you will be fine.

The aircraft is a Tower Trainer 40 with the Tower 46 BB ABC engine. The airplane flies great from land, seems to have a decent amount of power for the altitude that I am at now, I live in Denver. That is not to say that it has any record breaking performance but it does not have to fly full throttle. What do you think, does it sound like it will fly?

Sure.
Most floatplanes take off from water in about the same distance they would take off from land. You have plenty of power for your plane, which would fly fine with a much weaker .40 plain bearing engine.

Read the articles about how to set up your floats, and if the floats are installed correctly, you should have no trouble.
