RE: amphibious floats

We have a fellow in our club that tried. He had free-swivel nose wheels and main wheels near the step (I don't remember if they were just ahead of or just behind it). He could get airborne from a hard surface, but there was too much drag to take off from the lake. It seems that the main wheels were the culprits. He didn't make the wheels retractable.

Yes, if you plan to use them both in the same flight, the wheels would have to be retractable, or as Laird said, they would create too much drag in the water

One of the recent r/c rags had a pic of a floatplane with wheels. The implication was that it was totally amphibious. I'll see if I can find the issue.

PS has to be M.A., R/C Sportflyer, or Fly R/C

Found it! It's in the Jan 09 MA. Part of the article on the Indiana Warbird Campaign Page 38, middle pic. A Sopwith Baby with tri-floats and wheels mounted inside the mains. They look like stock vintage wheels. I'm sure with the help of Google you could contact the owner.
