Float Plane newbie
I am new to Float Plane flying. I recently tried and could not get my plane to lift off the water, I have an Ugly Stick with a 40 size Thunder Tigre engine. It seemed to have plenty of speed but would not lift off the water. Any suggestions.

RE: Float Plane newbie
Probably incidence of the floats. With the tops of the floats level, the wing of an ugly stik should be a little (1/2-3/4") higher in the front than at the trailing edge.
Some newbies put the noses of the floats too high so that the floats will pop up on top of the water. They will, but then the wing can't get any air under it to lift you off. See the Frequently Asked Questions in my website. Send pictures of your plane, so we can see what's going on... |

Yep, you need to shim up the front float legs by about 3/8" to 1/2". Oh, and get a plastic prop. Water spray will destroy a wood one if it has not already chewed the tips off of yours. Check balance, and make sure that it still balances on the same point that it did before floats. If necessary, add weight to the floats to balance. That way if you put it back on wheels it will still balance in THAT configuration.
