Floats for a trainer......

I have a trainer that I just got from an RC auction that our club had today, and I would like to put floats on it. I cant tell what kind of plane it is but it is a 40 size. I would like to get some feedback to get the best available floats for the plane.

Thanks Very Much,

Mike

Float selection

Mike, the "best" set of floats depends on what you want. You can buy an all wood kit of from Great Planes and build them yourself. You can buy plastic or fiberglass floats ready to paint. Also you can buy foam core kits and sheet them or fiberglass them. In my opinion the foam cares are the best because they are lighter than the wood kit floats and they cannot spring a leak and fill up with water as any of the hollow floats can. Check your e-mail as I sent you a message about my floats..........Seaplane

I always give the same answer to this: Use foam floats. THey are lighter and will not sink if damaged.

One supplier is www.planefunfloats.com
He participates in this forum as "seaplane"
If anyone has ever had anything unkind to say about his floats, I have never heard it. Only rave reviews.

Other foam floats suppliers are listed in my club website, linked below.

You can also make your own floats. There is a good magazine article in Randy Linderman's website. You can also get to randy's website through my club website.

For a .40 trainer, you typically would use floats in the 36" range.

I used the US Aircore floats on my Tower .60 Trainer seem to work ok and weren't expensive.

There is a pic in my gallery.
