First float plane
 

I am farley new to RC flying doing well with a hanger 9 toledo special and an old plane that was givin to me 20 years ago it is a mid wing that flyes fast and does nog glide well. So anyway what would be a good float plane for me to start with, I prefer nitro to electric and what is diffrent when taking off and landing on water. I've been looking at the saratoga with the float kit but want some advice first.

You already have the Toledo Special, so why not put floats on it. You could set it up to switch back and forth between floats and wheels fairly easy. Taking off from water you don't have to worry about cross wind, just point into the wind, get on step and get up to flying speed and lift off just like on a hard surface. landings are just as easy, come in like normal and just let er settle in, your whole body of water can be a runway.

I agree with Crash, but I will also add that the Saratoga with floats is an excellent flier!

I haven't put floats on my Saratoga - yet. It's on the menu though. I give it high marks so far for flying and build quality. Fast with a .46 yet slows nicely for landing. First ARF I have owned that I didn't need to work out the covering wrinkles either right out of the box or after the first day in the car and sun. Did not need to add epoxy or otherwise beef up the firewall or other members on inspection. Well made ARF (and priced accordingly).

I really like the feel of mid-wing planes on floats.. Had a Midwest Little Stick on foam floats and now the Krafty 60 (modified to mid-wing) on Great Planes 40-size floats.. The 60 plane is so light that the 40-size floats let it ride very nice in the water without the extra drage of bigger floats in the air.

Just about anything you're comfortable with flying from land, when set up right will fly well from the water,,
The only difference is,, you'll have a lot more fun with it on floats ;)

Thanks for the help. I may save this for an reason for a new plane but I do think the TS would look good on the water.

I'm not an ARF guy, but I think she'd look pretty sexy on a set of floats ;)
