I was able to recover the battery by using a non-smart charger to bring the voltage up. Once this was done, I switched to the Spektrum Smart Charger to charge them.

You cannot go wrong with the DX9. MY only complaint is availability of the Spectrum Servos but this seems to be getting better. You can always use third party compatible servos with the Spektrum RX....
