RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

I haven't really found many people that have been disappointed with the atmel chips. I have had great luck with them, although i was using the ATmega64, but it's pretty much the same thing as the 128...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

I've been thinking about some of the previous posts and it has dawned on me that two opposing rotating disks will not cancel each other's gyroscopic effects out. To "cancel out" would mean for the...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

The trick to getting a mini VZ-1 to fly properly will be in the rotors. They NEED to be heavy, otherwise the gyroscopic effects will not be significant enough. Unfortunately the DF blades are like...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

The VZ-1 is a great example of the stabilizing effects of a gyroscope. Technically in our 4-rotor flyers, there is a "self-stabilizing" gyroscope as well, but because of our need for low-inertia...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

I just read back on one of danvels posts - the one where he posted the oscilloscope pictures. The first one is of the motor voltage and I can see that you have excessive back emf spikes!. That will...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

Im back again guys!
Danvel - Have you probed the voltages right across the motor and right across the fets?
The reason why I ask is because I too had HUGE amounts of heat dissipation on my FETS...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

HEY ALL

It has been a while since I have been to the site. I have been in New York for a while, and since I am in summer Term I am no longer studying or working on the draganfly. However I am...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

Hey guys,

I had considered a laptop power supply option as well, there is a problem with that, however. When you crank the starter, all accessories have their power supplies cut. This means that...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

I actually used the same FET's in my flyer. As long as there is a flyback diode on the motor they ran cool to the touch.

Vision: it's nice to see some new people posting on this site, welcome...

ADI, regarding the filter. I don't know if you've seen it but I have my filter posted on my website's photo album.

it is an 18 dB/octave butterworth filter...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

TVE, im a bit confused about the data your graphs show. The gyro output, is that for the z-axis? I'm assuming it must be because a compass is only useful around that axis. But then how does the...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

Video is ready to go guys. In case you're wondering, the cables are for power and control. Our goal is to try to make this think autonomous, so we don't have radio control implemented.

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

Spaceclam, in response to what my problem was before the opt-isolators, it sums up to this: The voltage on my batteries was fluctuating wildly. What was causing the problem I still am not entirely...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

I am using the Atmel ATmega32 and programming with CodevisionAVR. Codevision is great - it has a lot of the atmel chip's setup code programmed in a macro type interface. All you need to do is set a...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

I use Mac OS X.3, but the programmer for the atmel chip I use only works on a PC, so I use both :)
Update --- The opto-Isolators worked AMAZINGLY well. There is no noise whatsoever, we got the...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

tve, I'm looking at your site - that closeup of the navigation board looks nice, I have to ask though, are those pieces pre-fabricated? That boards with the pic on it looks like the solder is very...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

well from what I understand kalman filtering basically uses the behavior of the system to predict what is the likely outcome as a result of the measurement taken. For instance, if a the derivative of...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

that's what I'm thinking, this way with the isolators there is NO way the noise can get through. It will be perfect. Its a pain in the ass to do, but well worth it in the end I think.

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

tve, only 1mV !!! wow, if I only had that much to worry about I would be laughing. And as far as a filter cap is concerned, I already have 2200uF, in parallel with a 4.7uF and a 100nF....thats a lot...

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

Yeah, when I said beefy trace to the FETS I meant beefy trace to the motors.
have you guys checked your 5v regulated lines with an oscilloscope or anything like that to see if it is noisy or not?

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

RE: Building a DraganFlyer - need to mix speedcontrollers - HELP

Well I tried my first flight today - I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED. The noise on my power supply is unbelievable. Even after I put it through a 5 volt regulator we're talking like 250 mV pk to pk! I...
