I never bothered to weigh mine...I knew it wouldn't get any lighter....to balance mine I picked it up on the underside of the top wing where it bolts to the cabanes...it needs to balance somewhere...

my DVII is a heavy plane too but still flys well....there's nothin' fancy about the setup except to use an incidence meter to set up how the top wing sits relative to the thrust line...with today's...

I finally maidened my C160...I went with two OS.25 FP engines...reliable and easy to set up...9/5 props....observed all of the flying characteristics you described...needed some up trim, flies like...
