Sadly Nevin passed away on January 8th 2021.

Yes it does look like the Wasp 049 also. My first glow engine was a Cox 049. It was in a plastic ready to fly P-40.

I think the problem you had with bending the tubing relates to the tubing hardness.
You must have been using hardened tubing. Heating it annealed (softened) it.

Ihave been resurrecting an old Big John for the past couple of weeks. Had no idea what
I was working on just know I liked it. It is now ready to fly except for balancing.

Early Zenoah G-23 crankshaft end play tolerances

I have an early G-23 (Kalt G-22) that has a noticeable amount of crank shaft end play.
I have not measured it but I can visibly see the flywheel move front to back as I push & pull
on the prop...
