Ultracote seams

Hi,

I get beautiful finishes with Ultracote but find on my glow planes, it's coming unstuck at the seams in certain spots. Obviously, I ironed the seams down on high heat but they just aren't...

AMA vs. FAA podcast

This is a good podcast from aero-news that will help clarify the topic. I think we're going to be OK.

RE: Monokote

You're not crazy. New Monokote doesn't really shrink very well compared to Monokote made before 2003.

RE: Kudos to Sig

Hi,

I ordered a Herr J-3 cub and a Four star 20 and some parts to restore my 1/4 cub and it all showed up in about 2 weeks

This is a tough business and a tough time. Let's keep supporting...

RE: Is Monokote Fixed yet?

I'm currently using Ultracote and getting nice finishes. It shrinks well, looks nice, and is easy to apply. The downside is that the seams come up easier and the overlaps are more noticeable. ...

RE: Is Monokote Fixed yet?

That 1/6 Waco is promising evidence that white Monokote is shrinking OK. Anything funky applying it like lots of stretching or really high temps needed to apply or shrink it?

Thanks, this is...

Is Monokote Fixed yet?

Hi,

Has anyone ordered a roll of white Monokote lately from Tower and had any luck getting it to shrink like it did 10 years ago?

Thanks,

Mike

RE: time for hinges

I used to use CA hinges and never had a problem, even on a 1/3 scale model. I hate risking dripping CA or fuming the covering.

I use Robart hinges now and think they're more professional...

RE: SIG in business

I ordered some stuff at the beginning of this week. I didn't get the usual e-mail from them. We'll see if it gets here. I have many of there kits in a little stash because about a year ago, I was...

RE: Floats for a 4 Star 60

Hi,

I have Sea Commander foam floats fiberglassed and painted (42" I think) but multiply the entire fuse length by 80%. I went a little overboard on the mounting system but it's VERY strong and...

Sea Dancer 60 instruction manual

Hi,

Does anyone have a copy of the ACE Sea Dancer 60 construction manual? I purchased a kit but it has no manual. I'm sure I can figure it out but I'd rather not! I haven't built an ace kit in...

RE: Sig four star 60 engine choice.

I have a Thunder Tiger 130 on my Four Star floatplane. It has ample power but I would prefer a YS 1.40 on floats. I'm sure it is a ballistic missle without the floats but I've never taken them off....

RE: Sig Mid Star 40 Build Thread

I couldn't agree more with the Monoject syringe for applying wood glue. Cheap from any medical or dental supply company. I've been tacking my planes together with medium CA and then running a bead...

RE: Good all-round plane 40/60 size

Four Stars flat spin great!!

My Four Star 60 (with tapered ailerons and enlarged tail control surfaces) does the nicest upright and inverted flat spins of any plane I've had. Similarly, the...

RE: Forgive me, for I have sinned.

I build a ton and keep planes I build for many many years (I have one that's 15 years old). ARFs are perfect as disposable airplanes. Go right ahead and practice those REALLY low inverted...

RE: 1/4 Cub Decals Needed

I haven't owned a gas plane in about 10 years. The last one was a 4.2 Sachs on a 30% Carden extra. I hated how that thing sounded and how much it shook. These 1/4 scale Cubs are so light...

1/4 Cub Decals Needed

I am finishing up recovering my 15 year old Sig 1/4 scale Cub. I used 21st Century fabric which is definitely one of the nicer, easy to use, good looking coverings on the market. It's worth the...

RE: Thunder Tiger 130 Failure

Back in Business! I got the 130 back from ACE. They overhauled it. It appears to have new internals but is the same case. I was a little annoyed at this. The valves were slightly out of speck...

RE: The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.

I went out to the field and saw the Ultimate I built 11 years ago and the new owner. It was a little rougher than new but still looked pretty good and was structurally sound. The original YS 1.40...

RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!

I don't like how the modern hoverplanes fly. I know how to 3D but I think it's ridiculous now. It's really silly to watch. I enjoy flying graceful pattern lines with some wicked snaps, flatspins,...
