I prefer the 3dfoamy planes.
I have used the e-flite motors with good success.
You have got to get you one ...two...three...ect. They are addictive!!!!

I agree with Woodsy. So true. But I would still get your instructor to give you an extra thumb or two for the first few trys. Repairs will be fewer and cheaper, FOR SURE!!!

I agree with the other guys. Foamies would be a handfull for a new/novice flyer. If your not used to using the Rudder constently(AND I MEAN CONSTENTLY) I would get some more time on the trainer.

Looks like you are on the right path richohealey. The 55's is what I use and the receiver is a good choice too.
My 2 cents worth- Get a new 55 servo and get the replacement servo gear set and give...

I think this would be a good plane to start with after you master the trainer. Before you know it ,you'll have all of the warbirds and be able to fly'em like a pro.
