RE: Color Schemes

I've found that the color that best contrasts against a blue sky for me is yellow. I typically finish all my planes with a combination of a yellow base with red and perhaps dark blue or black as...

RE: Choosing an Appropriate Fast Electric Setup / NON-RTR

Excessive heat is the enemy of LiPos, and high currents make heat in the battery.

It is better to add capacity (mah) than to draw near the pack's max C rating with a higher rated pack. Working...

RE: Great Planes PT- 17 Stearman ARF

You're right. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/wink_smile.gif

The engine cylinder issue has been corrected since that photo was taken. Funny, no one ever...

RE: 40'' Catamaran brushless conversion help

Even given the availability of the inexpensive KB motors and cheap Ebay LiPos (I have a few of them too), gasoline is still a far cheaper way to go with this hull size range.

There is still the...

RE: Great Planes PT- 17 Stearman ARF

Bigbird,

You will find that the stock wheels for the GP Stearman kit are too small to be scale. I did the math when I built mine, and the closest regularly available size is 5". I used the Dubro...

RE: Help with converting 40

I wouldn't use that coupler. It's plastic, and will snap in two the second you put the kind of power to it you are contemplating.

Why not just buy a 5mm-.187 flex hex coupler, and drill the 5mm...

RE: 40'' Catamaran brushless conversion help

If it's speed you're after, you'd be money ahead in retrofitting a bigger nitro engine or a gasoline engine onto the cat.

For a 40" cat , you'd need something in a .80-.90 sized inboard piped...

RE: Just ordered the Velocity Mono from Mini Cat Racing

Sailr,

I am looking for a small BL motor for an 18" mono project, and was looking at the Velocity 24-45L BL that comes in the Velocity boats. Does this motor come with water jacket, or must it be...

RE: Great Planes PT- 17 Stearman ARF

I find it easier to keep the number spacing and alignment correct if the whole decal is applied at once. The trick is to put some soapy water down on the area so you can lift and reposition the decal...

RE: Aurora 60 Build Thread - Electric Power

Sometimes you just pay for a name, too. As in rebadged packs from Chinese sources who sell direct, and to resellers/rebadgers.

RE: Tiporare questions

Well, I finally dug my old Tipo out of the corner over the weekend. I had a heckuva time finding the pipe that goes with it, but I did find it. I will try to get a couple of photos up here in case...

RE: List of Classic Pattern Kit Manufacturers

PAC has been shut down for some time, IIRC. I wish they were still around, since they had a lot of the most desirable 80's/90's era pattern designs for sale.

RE: Tiporare questions

Since I didn't have a whole lot of time on the bird before retiring it, it hasn't faded to any noticeable degree. It still looks crisp and bright as of the last time I took a look at it.

The...

RE: Tiporare questions

I've had a couple of PM's about the Tipo, so I guess I'll drag it out of the corner in the next few days and snap off a few pics to post.

In the meantime, a description: Predominantly white fuse...

RE: Tiporare questions

I retired the Tipo primarily because I sort of lost interest in flying it after having a minor mishap with it one day at the industrial park where our little gaggle of guys used to fly pattern. I was...

RE: Tiporare questions

When I built my Tipo I put the aileron servos outboard in the wings. If you'd done that, you'd have a lot more room for the flap and retract servos. It's too late now though.

It's worth...

RE: FK Speeda

Especially for an incomplete kit.

I took a couple stabs at it, but when it got over $200, I decided I didn't want it THAT bad. It was my first ever pattern plane, so nostalgia was working...

RE: GP Super Stearman

The best way to make the Stearman fly more scale is not to overpower it with a humongous engine.

RE: GP Super Stearman

My Great Planes PT-17 flies great balanced per the instruction manual, which IIRC puts it about where the rear cabanes attach to the underside of the upper wing. I don't know if the white Stearman's...

RE: Flair 1/4 Scale PT-17 Stearman Review

MY GP PT-17 uses an 8000 mah pack, so each charge gets me upwards of 20 minutes of flying. I don't really know the absolute limit, since I'm usually ready to land before that.
It's more than...

RE: Flair 1/4 Scale PT-17 Stearman Review

This has been one of the enduring dilemmas in building a Stearman without a cowled engine. IMHO, nothing looks correct except a radial engine (real or fake).

My suggestion is to consider going...

RE: Everything Radial Engines

I suppose it just remains to be seen, how good any Seidel engines made in India turn out to be.

One question that may need to be asked is, "how good do they NEED to be?" I personally would...

RE: Everything Radial Engines

I would expect that Mr. Seidel has thought of that, and will take the necessary steps to keep that from happening, if he values his reputation.

Maybe the Indian-manufactured engines deserve a...
