RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

The spacer slides onto the axle, then the wheel, then the collar. So the axle thread goes through the gear hole, and the nut is screwed on from behind. Then slide spacer over axle followed by wheel....

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I think the .61fx is plenty for this plane. It would be nose-heavy IMO with a .91 and you don't need that power. It's quite fast with the .61, even with a 13x4. It has plenty of power for unlimited...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

FYI, it not the canopy you are talking about, it is the cowl. The canopy is what the pilot looks through. :D

As I understand, it, no you should not cut out the 2nd opening as long as the single...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I assume you've checked for bubbles in the fuel line. I had a defective casting where the needle valve attaches - it left a tiny gap at the casting seam which allowed air to enter and formed bubbles...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I would think 1/8" of elevator uneveness would be plenty to snap it. This plane requires so little elevator travel that I couldn't believe it was set up right until I flew it. So 1/8" is alot on this...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I didn't carve out my formers - used a bigger tank attached to the receiver tray so it is closer to CG, and ziptied battery to wing bolt former. Balanced perfectly w/ OS .61fx.

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I used glue - in fact I just used some yellow carpenters glue I had on hand since I didn't have any canopy glue at the time. Canopy glue is simply an aliphatic glue, and so is Elmers etc. If...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

You do want to add a clunk to the 2nd fill line if you want to be able to pump extra fuel out of the tank at the end of the day.

It's simple to place a bigger fuel tank further back - I may...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

Mine has an OS.61fx and it seems perfect to me. I used a slimline pitts muffler with the motor mounted sideways, never even tried to use the stock muffler. It required a small cutout for the corner...

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

I did not add any weight - the battery is zip-tied to the front of the firewall next to the motormount, and it seems to balance at manual spec location; fuel tank is in stock location. I don't doubt...

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

I finally weighed it - 13.75 lbs w/ OS 1.60, 4 aileron servos, 6v 2700mah NiMh.

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

I went w/ 2 servos per aileron, using Futaba 3151 digitals since I had them on hand. With 6v it gives > 100 in/oz per surface.

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

I have an OS 1.60 on mine, no chance of flying it anytime soon thanks to the weather. I have run the motor a few times tho and it pulls like a horse with the APC 18x6w. I will try and weigh it...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

Mine seems fine w/o any up or down added, using a OS.61.

I used 30 min epoxy - just coated center of stab with it and pushed it in, then cleaned off excess. Ran a filet of epoxy underneath where...

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

I think people also argue whether those other planes you mentioned "should" have a 50cc on them. I agree if they can "handle" 50cc, so can this plane. But ideally I think you want something more in...

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

It's not hard to build, but the manual is awful. Pretty much the worst one I've seen, GP SIG or H9 are much better.

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

Funny, my cowl screws seem to be long enough even though they are on the louvers.

I used those two blocks behind the fuel tank, on top of the cross member.

I just noticed that two of my...

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

For antenna tube I used - you guessed it - soda straws. 3 of them attached end to end and taped. I ran it back along the tops of the formers ending in the space next to the rudder and taped it to the...

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

Dave - I followed AWCflyr's suggestion and used plastic soda straws epoxied into the exit holes for the pull-pull cables. We'll see how it holds up.

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

Mine is as good as finished - waiting for a spinner nut. Now that I have it assembled, I have to say this is a fine looking aircraft, one of the nicest I've seen. Pictures don't really do it...

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

Excellent advice - thanks! I remember the crimping thing from the Soucy thread. 1/8" line it is, no pump, and I will mess with the mufflers to see what fits best. I have a slimline pitts on my OS...

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

Thanks guys for the tips - I will try the straws and the 18x6.

More OS 1.60 questions: I was wondering if I should use the stock muffler assuming it fits inside the cowl (side mounted motor),...

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

Pull-pull question for Bob and anyone else who has gotten this far - did you carve out some of the rear fuse former so the pull-pull cables don't rub?? Even crossed, mine will rub on the rearmost...

RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77"

Actually if you compare the lengths the CG Yak comes out to 26% (72" = 1.83m/6.91m = 26.5%) - so the CG uses relatively shorter wings than the real thing. So I would say it averages out to roughly...
