Thanks for the info on the adhesive. Discovering new materials is one of the things I enjoy about RC modeling. I've been doing it for going on 30 years and only bought 2 airplane kits. I tried...

Flyboy,
Sweet! Tell me more about the rubberized silicone as I can envision many uses for such an adhesive. I like to see someone kit bash, so to speak, to make an airplane lighter and stronger...

The birdcage canopy was used because it's so simple to build. The top, sides and area behind the canopy are simple curves as are the two outer panels of the forward canopy. The only complex curve is...

RE: Scale Birddog

Upper/Rear Window alum. and rivet detail photo thought you'd appreciate. The "jog" in the wing root area is quite evident in this photo.

RE: Scale Birddog

Khodges,
I'm glad to see you chose to pursue "true-scaling" your Birddog. It's well worth the effort and it's something you can be quite proud of. The Mylar you refer to as expensive is far from...

RE: Show us your Beaver!

Hey,
I read this article online the other night that said the fogging can be avoided if you put Future on the windows before using CA. I can't state that's true as I've not used it.

I do know...

RE: Birddog plan

Hey,
I'm not familiar with the RCM Birddog plans you're building from but, having designed and built from my plans for 30 years, I may be able to help you.

I'll hazard a guess that the fuse...

Chad,
By golly, you're right. As I was saying, sometimes one should question sources. By the way, the 3 view you posted is incorrect in two aspects I can tell right off which puts the rest in...

RE: Scale 1/2A P-51A build

Canopy and Canopy latches done!!!! God smiles upon me sometimes and my fingers stop wiggling long enough to not get glue or paint on the clear part:)

RE: Scale 1/2A P-51A build

It's a 1/5th scale Birddog for a 22-26cc gas or 120 nitro engine. I've got the plans available if you're interested. All up flying weight is around 9-10 lbs. I'm building one as soon as I get this...

RE: Scale Birddog

Okay, my turn for stupid questions. Since one can use two pieces of, say 1/4", music wire soldered together for this why would you want to try an FRP? The spring coefficient of the music wire's a...

You guys have got to get a grip!

To begin with, you may, or may not, be aware of the fact that Paul MacReady designed, built and, had flown successfully, a 90' wingspan aircraft that weighed 60...

RE: P-51A build

Aaah! The Wings and Fuse near completion.

First is the wing, second is the fuse in "raw" aluminum and then what it looks like with panel lines/rivets. My weight penalty on the fuse was 1/2 oz.

RE: Show us your Beaver!

Nice looking model. The airplane leaves a bit to be desired, however...wings are too stubby to be Beaver wings.

RE: Show us your Beaver!

I'd like to know anyone whose built this a/c and come in under 20 lbs and not been "Monokoted". With boat building techniques as evidenced, think more like 22-26 lbs. if you do any detailing of the...

RE: Scale Masters Beavers and Birddogs

Ron9844,
I'm familiar with those. Close but no cigars on scale points and they're rocks that have to fly fast to fly at all. It's a simple matter of wing-loading. The 1:1 Beaver has a helluva low...

RE: Scale Masters Beavers and Birddogs

Olenorski,
The Marutaka's nice, in fact, it's the most scale Birddog I've seen. There's potential but it would still take some re-kitting to get it off to a good start.

Your mentioning the...
