Building a boat, need a primer on powertrain

Wow.. this escalated while wiriting, sorry in advance for the wall of text.

I've been flying RC airplanes almost exclusively the last 10 years, so going back and building a boat leaves a lot of...

RE: What to do with OS .40LA

Any .25-.30 sports plane will be great with it. It about the same weight as a normal .32 BB engine.

Seen a Pilot Supra Fly .25 at my club with it and I've used one briefly in my Pilot Seduction...

RE: Am I Ready For a Low Wing?

Pick up a GWS Formosa for 30 bucks and move the hardware from the E-starter into that one, It flies great and should keep you on your toes for a while ;)

Seduction 90, good first _real_ pattern ship?

I've built and flown the Seduction 25, and it was a real blast to both build and fly.

I've been wanting to step up a level with my flying and my local shop is selling these kits for half price...

RE: Which prop for OS .32 for 3D?

Ok, I was a little optimistic then, this engine needs to rev up a bit before it wakes up and delivers, I've used 9x8 and 10x6 APCs on mine.

What fuel where you testing with? I'm running a...

RE: Which prop for OS .32 for 3D?

I would try out a 11x5 or 12x4, the 12.25x3.75 should be good as well. (APCs of course).

10x4 is way to light, you'd be close to the 20k rpm range with it, 10x6 is a good 10" for general...

RE: Gas or Electric

Keep in mind that going glow-powered will of course require a dedicated field and an instructor if you haven't flown before. Trying to teach yourself to fly on a .40 trainer is not a good idea and...

RE: Gas or Electric

An electric setup with a lithium battery and brushless motor can outperform any regular combustion engine, but it will cost a bit more.

If you're going to start flying on your own you'll better...

RE: smaller 2nd plane (.25 size)

I'm building a Pilot Seduction 25 (http://www.pichler.de/okmodel/flugmodelle-seiten/pilot_seduction25.html), 100% lasercut, very good quality materials. The building instructions are on the plans and...

RE: Trainer or Mustang?

Q: How do you eat an elephant?
A: One small mouthfull at a time.

If you go for a glow powered 60" plane than of course you're gonna crash it before you learn anything. Get a faster flying...

RE: Why only 2 prop?not 4 or 3?

The added drag and mass of the 3 and 4 bladed props makes it easier to keep constant speed and aince model planes are easy to overpower anyway one might as well use any trick to make the routine...

RE: Why only 2 prop?not 4 or 3?

The tips of a 10" prop turning 14k rpm wil be travelling at 186 m/s, thats 426mph or someone might say mach 0.54

Imagine the drag (air resistance) at that speed, a significant amount of your...

RE: What Radio "FEELS" the best/not Features

I would say Multiplex, I'm a Futaba-guy myself, but the Multiplex-"followers" seem way more devoted than any user of other brands.

RE: What radio? New or Old ?

I would advise against the basic 4 channel, a 6 channel basic computer radio is only a few $$ more and the basic 4 channel is a pain in the butt once you get more than one plane.

RE: Fuel tank size for OS .32SX

OK, now I'm leaning toward the 6oz. The engine should be on the high end for this plane, so anything more than 1/2 throttle for normal flight will be disappointing.

RE: Newbie strikes again

Your engine should be fine in a standard .40 trainer.

The silicone tube won't melt by just touching the crankcase of the engine, maybe if if was in direct contact with the cylinder head. It...

RE: Fuel tank size for OS .32SX

The engine manual suggest a 220cc (7.4oz) tank for 12-14 minute flights, I'm leaning towards the 8oz, I'll have to use one of those flexible Sullivan tanks and I might have to reshape it with a...

Fuel tank size for OS .32SX

I'm building a Seduction 25 with a 32SX up front.

The plans show a 180ml (6oz) tank, but isn't that a bit small for a 32? Looks like I could squeeze a 8oz flextank in there if I wanted to.

RE: Tach question

Your reading is correct, we have 230V/50Hz in most western european countries while the americans are stuck with 110V/60Hz. 3600 * 50 / 60 = 3000

RE: is a 40la enough for segull spacewalker

I would spend another 8 bucks and get the 46LA, it's the same engine as the .40 with a slightly bigger bore that gives it 20% more power at the same weight. It will perform closer to the Magnum...

RE: Futaba 6EXA

Someone posting questions in the "Beginner" forum is not likely to build a model with dual elevator for some time, and even then you can use the free mix to setup the second elevator on channel 5 or...

RE: First Plane, Got Some Questions

You' need app 50W per pound of aircraft for decent performance, a little more for acro, less for a trainer. a 400W setup will outperform any standard .40 engine in a trainer. Hell, even father and...

RE: First Plane, Got Some Questions

I disagree, with a typical trainer like plane with a decent lipo pack you'll get 20min+ flights. My E-Starter flies for 25 minutes on 1500mAh (Stock Speed 400 motor).

I always bring a GWS...
