Warbird Pilots Please Vote (TF Giant Kits pole #1)

Uncle Heinkel:

I just finished a TF Spitfire, and you are correct in that TF took liberties with the LG placement in the name of ground handling. Two things, they angled the struts out to far, and...

.61 two stroke really enough for a TF warbird?

I have flown the P-47 and the FW190 with .61's and it flew them just fine.

My FW190 is glassed and painted, with retracts, and 9.1 lbs. Flies great with the .61.

My Spitfire is glassed and...

EZ Zero Decals

Don't mention rain! I wanted to fly today, but it rained all day. I can sure pick the right days off...

By the way, I should have said "elevator" in the post above, not stab. Hope that makes it...

EZ Zero Decals

Hi Scott:

It's been a few years, so I went and looked at mine. One of the decals, no 4 I believe (shorter one), I put on the trailing edge of the flap next to the fuse (like a "no step" warning)....

need help on spit

Yep, sounds heavy.

My TF 60" span Sport Scale Spitfire, which has a reputation for building heavy (I don't necessarily agree), is 8.9 lbs fully ready to go. This includes almost a pound of nose...

Pictures are being added Now I would mention T.F. Spitfire MKIX underway

I assume you are talking about the TF Spitfire?

If so, keep the tail light! Most of us have had to add close to a pound of nose weight. Use the lightest wood for tail sheeting.

Regarding...

Ziroli 70" P-47 progress pics for those that may be interested

Thanks Don, as Greg stated above he sent me the pics you took, and they are helpful. I would love to see the air-to-air photo shoot though!!

Greg: good point on the clarification. What I am...

Lookin good! I recieved my wood this week, and have the formers installed on the crutch, pushrods and tailwheel installed, and about half the stringers installed. Should be ready for planking after...

Advice on plans-building

I have just started the Ziroli 70" P-47, and is my first plans build. All my other warbirds have been kits (TF, Yellow AC).

The Ziroli does not look difficult to build, and I am confident I can...

Dhable:

Good job on your Spitfire! Too bad we are not close enough to fly in formation.

Your weight of 8.5 lbs sounds about right, considering no retracts. Mine is 8.9 lbs with retracts and...

TF Spitfire Completed!

No fear, the OS .61 FX is plenty of engine for the Fw190. See my post above. I can cut up the sky, fly it way over scale, and have power to spare when I need it. Fly-by's are fast, and at the field...

Good job, I can't wait to get started on mine! Still waiting on the wood.... Keep posting pics, I want to see Oregon's Britannia spring to life.

What are using to build the waste gates and...

EJ:

Congrats on your flight, glad to hear that things went fine. You might try to replace the master airscrew with a 12-6 or 12-7 APC prop, and your performance may be even better with more...

Tf Fw190

I second Wulfman, he is right on. I also built the TF FW190, and built it sport scale (see my gallery). I used the CJ retracts, and they do not fold completely in the wing. My wheel covers are just...

Same as you, waiting on the weather. The engine I am going to fly the Spit with is in another plane, getting broken in. I need some good weather here, to break in the engine and then I will...

GF Reid:

Interesting link, the modeler went to a lot of work for a static kit. I was noticing the difference on the invasion stripes, the link aircraft shows full stripes top and bottom. I also...

Sounds like we went through the same process on color selection. The more I look at my Spit and compare to the pics I have, the more the colors may be about right for the P-47 camo.

The exact...

I have seen your website, and your pics helped me decide to build the "Z" P-47. I may have questions for you later! I also considered the Oregon's Brittania, but decided on Col Dave...

I have also used the MM acrylics, if you check out my gallery the Yellow Zero was painted with acrylics. I found that the enamels airbrush easier, and you can make a finer line....

No, I took a shortcut and used the kit decals. They look more painted on because they are applied over the first gloss clear (sticks really well this way), and then sealed with the final flat...

G.F. Reid: regarding MM paints.

If I remember right, the bottom side grey color took 3 bottles, the top camo 3 bottles of grey and 2 green. Then, add one yellow and one sky. At $2.00 each, approx...

3rd pic.

Overall, I was pleased with the appearance for sport scale. I did not get around to making a static prop, but a big 4-bladded paddle out front will improve the looks. TF deviations from...
