It may depend on the type of plane you are flying.
If you were flying a powered glider you would not want to rely on the low voltage cutout. Carefull timing of the motor runs or a seperate battery...

I don't know which is better, but my Castle Creations Phoenix 25 (after uploading latest firmware) is working very well in my application. However I am only drawing a peak of about 11 amps.

I am currently using firmware version 1.07b. This starts up much better than 1.02 which came with the ESC.
Set the ESC to fast startup and no brake.
I found with the original firmware if I opened...

The AXI direct drive motors are quite.
I have a AXI 2212-34 with a APC or GWS 11x4.7SF prop running of 3 cell lipo. When the plane is close you can hear the servos over the motor noise.

I have version 1.07b firmware in my Phoenix 25. The startup is much smoother than with 1.02 that it came with.
The ESC should not be cutting out with the props you are using. I am using APC...
