RE: rc shopping in canada?

imo, better to shop south of the 49th parallel. LHS overcharge and then there's the greedy gov't 5% + provincial tax. Also, they never stock enough parts up here -markets are not big enough.
Many...

RE: NiCd & NiMh Battery Storage.

storage charge = 50% of the mAh value. (ie. 3000mAh niMh pack = 1500mAhs) OR if you have a basic wall charger, figure out what it takes in time to fully charge the pack and then charge it for 1/2 the...

RE: Lipo Feedback

I'd recommend you take a look at maxamps.com
Reliable and knowledgeable. Speak to Austin.

I'd be very weary of products direct from China at this time.
Deal directly with a reputable shop...

RE: Where to buy Lexan?

usplastic.com is expensive.

Jerzferno,

check with your local plastic supplier for 4x8 sheets or 1/2 of these. It'll be cheaper for you to cut it up yourself.
looks like your...

RE: Deans??? Tamiya???

yes. just pre-tin the deans on the flat part. when you solder the pre-tinned dean and wire, let the solder melt and hold there for a second or two - steady hand....

tamiyas actually dont use...

RE: Deans??? Tamiya???

(1) strip 1/4-3/8 inch of the jacket off the wire, pre-tin wires and deans. let it cool.
(2) cut the appropriate length of shrink tube about 1/2+ inch should suffice.
(3) slip the shrink tube...

RE: Deans??? Tamiya???

think of it this way - if you use a water hose to hose down a fire, which works better?
a hose with no leaky holes in the line itself or a tattered hose with alot of leaky holes in the line? ;)

RE: Deans??? Tamiya???

pre-tin them = putting solder on the wires and on the deans so that when you do solder the wire to the connector they will adhere faster and easier for you.

You'll need a "third hand" to hold...

RE: Deans??? Tamiya???

comparing deans to tam connectors?.....
better contact which is what you essentially want.

The tamiya connectors rely on male (plug) to female (thin hollow tube) connection, whereby the female...

RE: Deans??? Tamiya???

???

should be fine - just let it get hot first. it sounds like this is your first time soldering. If so, I'd recommend you do a few trial runs with some wire, soldering them together. ;)

RE: Deans??? Tamiya???

then yes, cut off at the base of the tamiya connector ends, strip them, pre-tin them, let it cool, put your heat shrink on the wires before...

RE: Deans??? Tamiya???

pre-solder the tips of the exposed wire ends and the deans, too.
And then solder the pre-tinned wire ends to the dean ends.

RE: Deans??? Tamiya???

for the ease swapping them, just cut them and resolder to the deans.

you can remove them intact, but it takes some finesse and patience to to this.

RE: Deans??? Tamiya???

deans will always give you better contact and transfer of current vs. the tamiya connectors which have a tendancy to loosen up on the connection. As well they dont handle the higher currents that...
