a RTR Roller is most likely a RTR truggy, with the engine/electronics taken off. The RTR has a cast aluminum chassis. The Race Roller has a milled chassis, which will be a little stronger, as well...

I too had very similar results dealing with Losi/Horizon. I specify both, because I have gotten support from them on Losi parts, Sportwerks parts and Spektrum. Their customer service is top notch.

Pinion gears are not universal, in the sense that they come in different pitches. I think there are only 3 pitches out, 32, 48, and 64. All pinions in the correct pitch are universal.
