RE: E-flite p-47

Kyle,

Brushed motors and LiPos do not get along well. I have toasted brushed motors of various sizes with LiPos. Seems the power density of Lithium batteries is too much for most brushed...

RE: Firebird Remote Controllers

The Aerobird family of airplanes is not at all compatible with most common radio control systems. They use a moulation system unique to Aerobirds and will not work with JR, Futaba, GWS, etc.

RE: What the H**L

Jim,

Buddy, pal, friend, goombah - you are made of better stuff than that. This is an intercahnge of information and is not pointless. I enjoy giving digs myself. I feel it livens up the...

RE: will any servo work with any receiver?

In a word, yes. The only real difference in servos is wire color and connectors. Electrically they all work the same way as far as receiver connections are concerned.

RE: can you solve this problem?

Try reversing the throttle on your transmitter.

RE: What the H**L

BrunswickOH,

You are absolutely right. What was I thinking? I guess all my years of electrical engineering has caused my brain to turn to mush and I just start babbling well worded junk. Bad...

RE: What the H**L

BrunswickOH,

I guess one man's "sense" is another man's "nonsense." The problem LiPo's have with can motors is primarily voltage and not current. While you are correct in that keeping current...

RE: What the H**L

If you gear/prop down to a "safe level" of current why use 3S LiPos? This procedure limits a 3S performance to that of a 2S. Sorry, your comment makes no sense. I am well aware of Dean. The...

RE: What the H**L

Just a motor and ESC. More expensive than what you have, but well worth it. I recommend a 370 equivalent outrunner. No gears needed and much more efficient. Make sure the motor is rated for 3S -...

RE: What the H**L

Tower Hobbies must be smoking strange stuff with respect to the U-Can-Do. The GP 280 and 370 brushed motors are rated for a maximum of 9.6V (the 370). No way these motors should be used with a 3S...

RE: PLEASE SAY SOMETHING TO STOP ME FROM QUITTING THIS HOBBY!!

I have flown the Slow Stick in stiff winds. I have seen other people fly it in the wind also. It ain't easy. My solution to windy conditions is to fly just after sunup and before sunset. These...

RE: Capacitors for Motor

Glacier Girl is most correct. If you use a "S" (Schottky) diode, carefully observe polarity. The band marked on the diode (cathode) connects to the positive battery/motor lead. This diode is...

RE: Capacitors for Motor

Use .1uf 50V ceramic. One end of a capacitor connects to a motor lead the other end of the same cap to the motor case. Keep the wires as short as possible. The caps provide noise supression. They...

RE: kokam 3.2 ah in series. Question.

You should have no trouble running any combination of LiPo packs in series. I have had reliability issues with Kokams. As a result, I use mostly Thunder Power now. Swollen packs usually indicate...

RE: lipos and brushed esc

Oh contrair my good friend. You are most wise in your motor cooling and flight timing. To my way of thinking this is a far better thing to do compared to trusting in LVC. Please do me a favor and...

RE: lipos and brushed esc

Some background info. When I first got into electrics, I experimented with brushed ESCs of my own design. In these ESCs I included a battery voltage monitor that provided an audible indication of...

RE: lipos and brushed esc

Ah, more LiPo mythology. I run all my BL ESCs with the LVC either disabled or as low as it will go. When LiPos get to a low voltage state my airplane's flight performance reduces significantly. ...

RE: lipos and brushed esc

This is a motor concern, not ESC. My experience with brushed motors and LiPos (lots of burnt windings) is that they don't like each other. Your stock motor is probably not built for the higher...

RE: cobalt motors??

I know we have gotten a little off subject, but I have worked at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center for more years than I want to admit. I have been a space fan since Sputnik and Vanguard. I...

RE: Minor issue with my JEti ESC

Make sure your throttle channel has 0 trim and that the stick is as far down as possible before arming the ESC.

Yes, everything you mentioned so far points to inadequate battery cpacity.

RE: cobalt motors??

You are focusing on the motor. The problem is battery capacity. The motor you selected can safely draw up to 17A. The 3S 740mah pack at 10C can only supply 7.4A. Less tha 1/2 the motor's maximum...

RE: cobalt motors??

I assume you mean 740mah not 7.4mah. The Aveox 27/13/4 is rated for 3S LiPos and 17A max current draw. If a 740mah pack is 10C, then the maximum rated draw from the pack is 7400mah (7.4 amps). ...

RE: cobalt motors??

HD - High Discharge
900 - 900 mah (milliampere hour) this is the batteries discharge rate AKA 1C
10C - maximum steady state discharge current, 10C x 900mah = 9A
11.1V - nominal 3S pack charged...
