RE: CAC Boomerang Project

I went to the Temora airshow last October and saw two (the only 2?) Boomerangs flying together. An awsome sight and sound. They really howl. I think the exhaust acts like a big deep whistle. It was a...

RE: Why do most blame everything but themselves

I've had plenty of radio "hits", probably one every three or four flights (my little GP Combat Spitfire has rolled completely and gone inverted at high speed) but none has resulted in a crash. My...

RE: PT-40 Nosedive

A bit off topic but snakes are a real issue here in Oz when you're out looking for aircraft remains or in my case Al spinners which have vibrated loose. I think I read somewhere that we have 15 of...

RE: VMAR Twin Otter

Nice Twotter! I had many flights in the Aeropelican Twotters from Sydney to Newcastle and back. One of the best views of Sydney you can get! Three across is is a bit of a squeeze particularly when...

RE: OS91FS loose front bearing

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I did use blue Loctite. I'll try a red. No not BOCA bearings, NHP I think. A new crankcase is about half a new engine price wise and given previous replacement...

OS91FS loose front bearing

I have an OS 91 FS Surpass II which runs beautifully, nice idle, smooth transition and generally very reliable. Its had a lot of use now and the front bearing is a bit loose in the housing (bearing...

RE: Saito 56 exhaust pressure?

Wow! USD$50 for a little button die. I think I paid AUD$15 here for a Sutton die but we are metric in Oz. It might not be as good a quality but when you tap a thread once in a blue moon it doesn't...

RE: Great Planes Combat Spitfire GP/EP ARF

Yeah, the throws in the manual are fine. The aileron throws seem small but give very rapid roll rate.

RE: Saito 56 exhaust pressure?

Might be my poor use of terminology! I know you tap a thread into a hole, is it still tapping a thread using a button die on the outside of a stud/pipe? Or is it just cutting?
I bought the M10x...

RE: Saito 56 exhaust pressure?

Thanks for your replies. Fortunately I stripped the thread on the muffler, not the head!
From your replies I see that a Saito 56 needs tank pressure so I will tap it in at 90 degrees just after the...

Saito 56 exhaust pressure?

I managed to strip the thread on the muffler of my relatively new Saito 56 - Don't ask! :( Anyway I have made up a nice exhaust pipe using 10mm OD steel pipe, threaded at the cylinder end with a 45...

RE: Great Planes Combat Spitfire GP/EP ARF

The airframe is great. Mine looks a lot worse for wear as this was my first hand launch plane and I had a few launch incidents before I got the hang of it . The wing is very strong.
I had a high...

RE: Jamara Spitfire60 ARTF(+ retracts)!

Bill,
haven't checked this thread for a while....
Firstly, I haven't had any trouble with the elevator using the single supplied horn on one side and my Spit gets a lot of work. I reckon I have...

RE: which airplane was definitive in winning WW2 over Europe?

Evil Merlin,
sorry you are correct JEJ had 38 victories. To quote from the back cover of "Wing Leader", "Johnson was the top Allied fighter ace of the last war with 38 accredited victories." To be...

RE: which airplane was definitive in winning WW2 over Europe?

It seems to me that there are many who don't seem to think the RAF/Commonwealth forces did anything of significance after the battle of Britain!
By the time the P47s and P51s arrived, the RAF...

RE: Great Planes Combat Spitfire GP/EP ARF

Well, the second flight was far better. Still in quite windy conditions but she's so fast and agile it didn't seem to matter although fine trimming was not possible. Love it. The landing was a little...

RE: which airplane was definitive in winning WW2 over Europe?

Wow, looks like I lit the blue touch paper! Trying to filter the facts from the myth and BS seems to reveal the following:
No single fighter was definitive. Each had integral roles to play in the...

Yep! I stumbled on this thread looking for something else and couldn't resist! I posted before reading all the posts but my opinion remains the same after doing so regarding the Spitfire being most...

RE: which airplane was definitive in winning WW2 over Europe?

Spitfire for me for the following reasons. (Surprised??...)
No victory in the BoB, no second front. (Yes the Hurricane was available in greater numbers and shot down more aircraft and the BoB would...

RE: Great Planes Combat Spitfire GP/EP ARF

I just maidened mine. OS .25FX fitted. I had to put the flight battery just aft of the rear servo tray former on the floor and it balance at around 57mm from LE. Near enough! Never flown combat...

RE: TF Spitfire Elevator LE

Thanks for responding. Fixing by cladding the LE and blocks with scrap sheeting was easier than I thought it would be and really only cost me an hour.

TF Spitfire Elevator LE

Does anyone have some pics of how you fixed the problem of the laser cut elevator LE being too thin? The problem has been noted before in the kit manufacturers forum but there were no pics showing a...
