RE: Contra-piston Calamity

Yes, I was baffled because of the lack of vacuum in a 2-stroke combustion chamber as well, but I just know what happened. And whilst your idea of detonation above the contrapiston shows a high...

RE: Thin walled fuel tube in UK?

Due to a change in personal circumstances I haven't dealt with either Inwoods or Blackburn since last Autumn, but I would be astonished to find they're no longer trading. A silly question I expect,...

RE: Thin walled fuel tube in UK?

You may have to e-mail them. Their descriptions are a bit vague.

RE: Contra-piston Calamity

Thanks David and Dieseldan for your replies. I think you're both right - the contra piston could not have been a correct fit in the head, and to have a non O-ringed contra piston in the head is in...

RE: Thin walled fuel tube in UK?

It's not neoprene, but both Blackburn Models and Inwoods do a diesel-friendly black rubber thin-wall tube of about 2mm id. One or the other also does Tygon tubing of about 2mm. Might also be worth...

Contra-piston Calamity

Have just had the contra-piston of my MVVS 61 fall into the cylinder whilst at tick-over!! The damage is limited to a well-mashed contra-piston but I'm baffled as to why that should happen,...

RE: ED Hunter Resto Complete

Absolutely stunning. As a schoolboy in the '50s I used to drool over these - now I remember why!

RE: I know it's naughty but....

Thanks for all these most interesting and surprising replies. Seems like instead of coming up with a new but risky idea, all I've done is re-invent the wheel!

I know it's naughty but....

...I prefer to start my diesels with the - oh no! - electric starter. I find that using the starter - aarrggh! - means you don't have to alter the compression from its normal running setting even...

RE: Diesel conversion for Irvine 61

Thanks for reply. Only recently got involved with PCs (after resisting for years), and my children tell me it's best to be cautious about giving out e-mail addresses. And I don't know what a PM is...

RE: What's the best way to start deisel engines

Nor do I! Fuel is pricey, can be difficult to get and is practically impossible to homebrew economically. The engines aren't nearly as clean as glows, and are more difficult to use. The crud that...

RE: Diesel conversion for Irvine 61

Hello again. No, not yet. I really have my sights set on an MVVS 61 after favourable replies to my enquiries on this forum, but I'm having a problem getting hold of one - the UK supplier doesn't...

Diesel conversion for Irvine 61

Anybody out there in Diesel Land tried an Irvine 61 conversion - and if you did, what did you think of it? Would also welcome general opinions as to whether it's strong enough for dieselizing.

RE: irvine 40 diesel

Master Airscrew are more flexible than APC and are therefore less efficient - could be you're not getting more thrust, only more revs.

RE: OK, Dar and Martin, don't laugh.

RE: OK, Dar and Martin, don't laugh.

That's an unhandy design feature!! Is it a common problem, and is there any way around it other than by replacing the head? Don't want to be buying a new engine and then have to fit different bits...

RE: OK, Dar and Martin, don't laugh.

Be interested to hear how you got on - am toying with the idea of buying an MVVS 61 diesel at present. What's the general opinion of them?

RE: irvine 40 diesel

Is an Irvine Q40 the model that came before the maroon-coloured ones? When you say that an Irvine or Davis head will fit does that mean factory diesel heads are still available, or is that too good...
