RE: 1/4 scale Balsa USA Focker D7, leading edge question

Been busy with a few other things lately, so hadn't gotten it done. But in the last few days I've finally had a chance to get back to work on things. Got the leading edge shaped from the new piece...

RE: 1/4 scale Balsa USA Focker D7, leading edge question

Well, it's taller because the flat is along the bottom as it's built, so it should be taller than the rest in this position. The piece that's the same height as what I'm supposed to put there seems...

RE: 1/4 scale Balsa USA Focker D7, leading edge question

Yeah, I figure it'll be no big deal to pick up a couple of pieces that are the right thickness, but I just find it kinda odd that even if I have the right thickness, it's still not going to be tall...

1/4 scale Balsa USA Focker D7, leading edge question

Ok, I'm finally getting back to working on my D7 (for whatever reason, it seems whenever I build things I end up with long gaps in the building process). I'm working on the upper wing, and I'm at...

RE: WHAT IS WRONG WITH RCU...

It's pretty common of all the sites that run this particular bulletin board system that when they reach a certain size, they start having issues. Generally it seems to take a bunch of optimizing and...

RE: This is crazy dangerous!

Yeesh, that's worse than this video that I found while I was trying to decide whether a DLE 30 was a decent engine for the plane I won at our annual banquet:

RE: Psychology of RC flying

I always kinda wanted to try using a head mounted eyetracker while flying to see what was going on with one's eyes when they're flying. I suspect it might be interesting to compare someone that's...

RE: has anybody put a steerable front wheel on a senior telemaster ?

My guess is it's certainly doable. Personally, on my trainer I went from trike to tail-dragger, and felt it greatly improved the plane. I wouldn't personally do the conversion the other way.

RE: Asphalt Runway yes/no

Gotta admit, I've only flown off grass myself, but I don't have any real reason to feel that asphalt would be an improvement. Now, that said we have a pretty nice grass runway. I've seen everything...

RE: Great Planes plan protector warning

I'm trying parchment paper this time. Not quite as clear as I'd like, but it looks encouraging for how well glue comes off it. I've used the plans protector stuff before and melted it to the plane...

RE: The oldest model aicraft club still in activity.

They must not be, because we're 353 and started in 1970. I was amazed at 40 years, so it's truly amazing to me to see ones even older than that.

RE: So what would you do in this situation?????

Gee, all the threats of physical violence and putting shoes through people's planes, and we're talking about the maturity level of the person who had the accident? Personally, I think some people...

RE: Flat spin and a corn field!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but with a geocache you get the coordinates for where the target is. Not so with the plane out in the corn. Does make a small difference :)

My BTE Venture is out in the corn field...

RE: My never ending Four * 40 build

I leave it in the back of my SUV all the time. Generally I try to pack the plane up in the morning, go to work for half a day, then head on out to the field. Never had a problem with it unless it...

RE: My never ending Four * 40 build

Most of the people at our field that start smaller (or heck, even larger) planes at our field that aren't using the starter benches we have just have the rope around the tail like that, and I've...

RE: My never ending Four * 40 build

The part right behind the spinner backplate (honestly don't know exactly what it'd be called). When I go to tighten down the nut on the prop, I find that I can't hold that part still, it rotates,...

RE: My never ending Four * 40 build

Yeah, there's a Fokker D7 kit that's been leaning against my wall for the last year waiting for me to finish the venture. Figure that kit will only take me about 5 years to build :).

I starting...

RE: My never ending Four * 40 build

Heh, and I thought my 4.5 years on a BTE Venture was running pretty long :). Then again, I don't have an excuse of a kid to make it sound more reasonable. Feels good to be almost done though,...

RE: Do you own a valid passport?

Heh, and that Brazil visa isn't real fun either (although did you have to get a non-tourist one? Don't know what those run, I just remember paying for the tourist one.).

I do cruises, so have...

RE: Pt-40 kit build

Yup, definitely build the sport wing, I can't imagine trying to fly it with more dihedral than that, it's already pretty stable. I converted mine to a taildragger when I had to do some repairs...

RE: BTE Venture 60 questions

Don't know about using flaperon, but the dual elevator mod is pretty easy. Bruce sells the parts for doing this, although I'm sure you could do it yourself too. If you check his site, the dual...

RE: Red Bull Air Racer Skips Plane on the Water

I've only been to the one, the first year it was in the detroit/windsor area (and was called the detroit one). We actually bought tickets to the canadian side that year. Now, I'll cut them a little...

RE: Do NOTAMs go Overboard?

Wow, that was awfully close to putting a damper on our warbirds event. Looks like it's Monday and Tuesday instead of over the weekend, and we're 5 miles outside the border anyways.

RE: Warbirds & Classics Over Michigan, June 5th and 6th 2010

I'm glad you found an event as an alternative for at least the one day. I've never emailed Gerry before, so have no idea how much he checks email. But obviously, getting feedback on things like...

RE: Warbirds & Classics Over Michigan, June 5th and 6th 2010

About all I can really suggest is bring it up to Gerry Kesler, the CD for the event. If you want his phone number I can PM it to whoever, obviously I'm not going to post it here (and have never felt...
