Have you set your 9C to PPM mode? As PCM will not work with AFPD...............

The second problem you mentioned I do not fully understand, most downloads for AFPD come in a "Zip" file...

Did you install them correctly? If you have AFPD not AFP on the pole and the 7 aircraft you will need to open the TMD file with "wordpad" and change the version number, here's how:
