You only need 3 channels if you are going to run a reverse. The stock Savage RTR radio is a 2 channel. I run a 2 channel DX2 with my Savage X.

#3 flat washers over the screw on the tierod end ball will keep the rods from poping off. Mine came with washers on the rear rods but not on the front.

I run either OS #8 or R5. The A5 is slightly cooler than the OS #8. It will work fine but you may find using a hotter plug will give you easier starts.
