That is what I ended up doing, only I removed the braided hose and swaged end from the regulator at the screw in nut, which left a long barb sticking out over which the gas supply pipe just fitted...

I am still flying my jackal after a year with it still in one piece.
I agree it is such an easy plane to fly, that with a lesser powered engine you could use it as a low wing trainer.
