RE: Is the great planes CG machine worth the money?

I think so, I bought one! But seriously, you need SOMETHING more precise than your fingertips. You can make one out of a couple of pencils and a block of wood, or buy one, but the CG Machine just...

RE: Tell me about internal resistance...

Internal resistance determines how fast the energy in a battery can be pulled out of it and used. Things like radios and CD players sip electricity; airplane motors guzzle it. If your batteries can't...

RE: Fighterbird Smar-Trak?

Mine didn't, but it was one of the first ones out- a promotional edition that my local hobby shop received from the distributor. Maybe the later ones did? Or maybe the guys in Marketing did an...

RE: testing motors for sutability?

Do you have something to measure current draw? Several different size props? Various batteries? We'll need more info also about the plane you're thinking of. It's hard to say much about a motor...

RE: Im Scared

I understand that the servos are five-wire, not three. If so, you'll have to change all the electronics out if you swap servos.

RE: Need help setting up a slow stick for photos

Just put an arm on the servo, then tape the servo on the camera so the arm is over the shutter button. Plug the servo into a free channel on the receiver. When you move the stick or switch that runs...

Dornier 328

Just thought I'd show off my winter project- a semi-scale Dornier 328 airliner. The kit was on sale at Hobby Lobby last fall, and I found some pictures of the full-scale at Airliners.net to use...

RE: setup

Get a new speed control. Must be pretty old, anyway, right? I haven't seen a speed control without a BEC in quite a while, unless it was for huge battery packs and high voltages.

Receivers are...

RE: Repairing dings in foam.

Depending on the type of foam, hot water works. Makes the foam swell a little, and the dents stay out after it dries. I've tried it on EPP foam, and it worked pretty well. Polystyrene, like my...

RE: ESC cutting power to motor and other problems

One possibility not mentioned is binding in the controls. If a control rod or a hinge is sticking, it may make the servo stall, and it will draw enough current to bring the battery voltage low enough...

RE: Why do the electric ARF's fly so poorly?

A sure-fire way to turn off the N00bs? Tell 'em their easy, all-in-one, open-the-box-and-fly outfit is gonna run $300 or better. How many kids would get one for their birthday then? I'm guessing a...

RE: Soarstar ESC

Most small ESC's provide an amp or so at 5V. What kind of additional load were you thinking of? The thing was only meant to run the receiver and 2-3 servos.

RE: Quick charger question(picture)

Looks like it should work fine. I'd get rid of as much wire as possible/practical between the adapter and the charger. If this is to be a permanent setup, I'd cut off all but a couple of feet of...

RE: what are the advantages of a lipo?!?!?!

Actually, you'll get more run-time out of a brushless motor, period, regardless of battery. The big "brushless advantage" is greater efficency- a brushless motor is able to use more of the battery's...

RE: Are Slow Sticks fun?? Are they a good starter plane?

The Slow Stick is a larger version of the LiteStik. The LiteStik, while a good plane, is more suited for indoor flying. The Slow Stick, being bigger and heavier, does better outside in a breeze,...

RE: Motors with built on controllers

I have a Graupner Terry and an E-flite Ascent that use the 400 PLUS. Just because they take up less space, and those planes have pretty cramped fuses. The only "minus" with these setups is that...

RE: Battery Problem Alert

I'll toss in a vote for Sermos connectors, also known as Anderson Power Poles. I don't think it really matters which of these three types mentioned you wind up getting; that depends on your budget,...

RE: Motors with built on controllers

Studysession: go search Hobby Lobby's web site for Graupner "PLUS" motors. Graupner makes a Speed 280 and a Speed 400 PLUS motor; both come with the ESC soldered directly onto the motor.

RE: reinforce foam wings

How about fiberglass strapping tape, applied on the bottom of the wing, from tip to tip? Light and cheap. For a few dollars more, there's fiberglass cloth or carbon-fiber mat applied with...

RE: battery hold downs

You could get a long, thin strip of Velcro and epoxy the center of the strip to the plane. Then place the pack on the strip, and join the ends over the pack like a seat-belt. Make sure the ends...

RE: which is the better deal

If the Hitec receiver is a Hitec Feather, don't get it. The Feather is a poor performer. That's an opinion I share with many other people.
If it's a 555 or Electron receiver, then the extra...

RE: cedar hobbies b-29 fortness 3 ch conversion

Check out the Bluebird servos from Balsa Products. Or GWS pico servos. I mean, you did say cheap. Hobby People has Cirrus servos that are much smaller and lighter, but they're $50 apiece now- and...

RE: HITEC SERVOS HS-50 and HS-55"" problem""

One cheap'n'nasty solution to the screwdriver problem is the humble $3 eyeglass repair kit from Wal-Mart. Tiny driver for tiny screws. Heck, you could even use the screws in the kit on the smaller...

RE: electron 6 question?

Yes, the receiver doesn't care which channel the battery (or BEC plug from a speed control) is on. Any open slot is fair game.
