RE: Aquila rebirth

I don't think you want this airfoil. It basically is a clark-y flat bottom floater and there are many more useable airfoils than this available. Especially for electrics.
I'm just trying to save...

RE: Aquila rebirth

More progress on the Ta-quila. I think it should be a pretty nice airplane once we're done. Covered the tips and tomorrow I get the Transparent Yellow for the inner panels. Servos and stuff are...

RE: Aquila rebirth

Oops, you are right. Lee did design the Aquila and Skip Miller flew it to the championship. I stand corrected. Like you, I just couldn't bring myself to trash the remains.
Thanks for correcting...

RE: Aquila rebirth

Jimmbbo.
The tail moment is actually a little longer than the original Aquila, but the horizontal stab is closer to the fuse for balance; ala Bubble Dancer, AvA, etc. No deflection in the boom,...

RE: NEGATIVE FEEDBACK: Northeast Sailplane Products

I've stayed away from NES because of this thread. Maybe some of you that have had positive experiences with them can get "Sal" to read these reviews and possibly make some adjustments in the way he...

Aquila rebirth

I posted pictures of an old Aquila I built in 1978 a couple of months ago and was going to sell/give away the wings and tail feathers but no one really stepped up.
So I stripped the flying surfaces...

RE: Coolest woodie at LASS this year!

That is a very nice airplane, but I thought it was a "woodie" event.
Fiberglass fuselage??
Do they allow composit parts in those contests? Where do you go to see about the rules for a contest...

RE: RES and/or Nostalgia Competition - Preferences

Paul.
Check out the League of Silent Flight website. I've copied the URL for you. It gives the description and rules of Nostalga class aircraft.
As far as favorites, everybody has one. ...

Hey, Smokin Joe

Did you get my message about Baton Rouge? I talked with Roy a couple of days ago and he's looking for you to get in touch.
Thanks,

Anyone?

RE: Looking for an old sailplane buddy

Hank. Thank you for the response. That would probably be Joe, but he's a little older than me and I'm 62. I'll check it out though.
I remember you too. Do you ever hear from Dr. Jim Thomas that...

Help. Anyone traveling from Mobile to Houston?

Anyone traveling from Mobile Alabama to Houston, Texas in the near future?
I would pay you to pick up a sailplane and deliver it to me here in Houston.
I hate to try to ship it.
If you're...

Looking for an old sailplane buddy

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Joe Welch. Last I heard from him he was in San Antoino, Texas.
He's an old sailplane buddy from Corpus Christi and I'd sure like to get in touch with him if you...

RE: Glide ratio

What the guy is trying to tell you is there is no standard.
Tell you what. Measure how tall you are with your arm extended over your head.
Mark the spot where you're standing and give the...

RE: Paint Instead of Monokote?

The guys at our local club here in Houston all said to do a dark bottom wing so you can see it.
This is what I did with my Opus just to give you an idea. The fuselage in now in primer and will be...

RE: Identification of Sailplane

Sorry. I didn't mean to imply it was a Camano. I just said I had built and flown several of them. I'm pretty sure other poster is correct, the airplane sure looks like a Maestro Mark III.
And...

RE: Identification of Sailplane

Well, after the suggestion about it being a Dodson bird and looking at it again, I'd have to agree.
I had several Dodson Camano's in the late 70's and I loved them.
I'm betting someone here can...

RE: Grand Esprit and some questions

Well, I made a little more progress today. Got the wings mounted and checked the dihedrial. Dead on.
Now I can block the wings and fuselage and go ahead with the V-tail assembly and make sure the...

RE: Need Help with warped Fuselage

Silent76.
Sounds like you've destroyed the laminating glue between the wood plies.
Its to late to save the sides now so I'd just cut some new one out of lite ply and go from there.
At this...

RE: Need Help with warped Fuselage

Hey, Silent76.
How did the process work making the sides straight?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Household ammonia is really cheap so if your bathtub method didn't work, try it.
Let us...

RE: Need Help with warped Fuselage

Big Oakden
If you're going to use this method, use denatured (read wood) alcohol only. It will work for other things too, like stretching out leather shoes that are to small.
Isopropol has...
