RE: Hanger 9 80" CAP

Instructions are great. Keep it as light as you can. There is a big difference in the flight characteristics when you start getting above 15 1/2 lbs. Read through all the other threads. There is some...

RE: Hanger 9 80" CAP

Hi Greg,

I'm running a BME 44. I swapped out all the bolts and screws except the shouldered screw for the pump cover with aluminum screws. With 20x8 Bambula and a CF spinner (lightened back...

RE: Hanger 9 80" CAP

I've got mine at 6 1/2" with no snap at all. That said, I built mine ultra light. It comes in at 14 lbs 10 oz. with smoke system.
So the fact that it does not snap and did not need a lot of...

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

I would think the faster you want to go the more stability you want built in. Every time you make a correction via aileron, elevator or rudder you reduce your overal speed. A properly trimmed plane...

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

Upright engine?...Yeah, that's the ticket.

Is there a speed penalty to take your design and build it with the empenage 180* and fly it that way? Which brings up the next question, why don't...

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

Well?????
You didn't crash into Mt. Saint Helen did you???
I've been following this thread with much anticipation.
Best wishes for a "speedy" conclusion (yes the lousy pun with double meaning...

63-S, 3 Blade prop and straight pipe

Hello Dave,

Looking at this engine to replace an OS 70 FS w/Perry Pump and straight pipe on a 45 size EZ Zero (6.3 lbs).

1). will a Graupner 10x8.3 be a good match for this engine?

2)....

RE: New Miss America P-51... I saw one today

Mike B.,
Looks great, nice build job!

I'll be real interested to hear how much muck runs down the plane with that Keleo muffler. Please let us know in your review. If it's not as bad as I...

RE: Moki 1.8

Yep,
I put it on a rotary knob so I could dial in the amount when landing. I've gone way up (>1/2") and had very good control. This plane was my first that was bigger than a 60 size. I was having a...

RE: Moki 1.8

It doesn't get any righter than that!!! (IMHO).
Well said Roger. Spoileron will help the tip stall. If you spend the time to trim this plane out like a pattern plane you will be amazed at how well...

Moki 1.8

Another good choice for engine is the Moki 1.8. A freind had one in his G202 when I had the OS 1.60. His definitely had more power, ran on lower nitro, but was a bit more work to tune. Both of us...

RE: Giles 202 1/4 scale engine

Hi Scott,

for the glow plug hole, here is how I do mine.
1). remove battery from glow plug ignitor, or install a bad glow plug.
2). get a stiff piece of paper or thin cardboard piece longer...

RE: 36% Extra...Spoilerons for landing a good idea??/

Glad to hear you are willing to give it a try. You know all the statements in this thread so far are right on (IMHO). For me spoleron is like "training wheels". It makes it very hard to mess up. I...

RE: Giles 202 1/4 scale engine

Just for fun I pulled out all the 5925's and put in 148's with bearing kits. I just wanted to see the difference. I used a 4 cell 1.4A JR pack.
Rudder would blow back bad, but the ailerons and...

RE: 36% Extra...Spoilerons for landing a good idea??/

Yes,

Spoileron is a huge help. We've done it on aerobatic planes from 60 size up to my 27% Cap (just for grins).
Try this. set your flaps on a rotary knob such that center is 0* flap. do a fly...

RE: Giles 202 1/4 scale engine

I originally mounted a BME 44 (just at 3 lbs) on mine, but the battery would have had to go so far back that the plane would have been terrible for 3D. So I went with an OS 1.60 and loved it.

RE: D&L designs 80" Edge 540

OS 160 is good up to about 12.5 lbs. after that there is not enough HP to pull it through. Another consideration would be the 18x6 prop being kind of small on this plane. I flew an OS160 on a GP...

RE: Carden Cuda, first look

Just an honest question here,
wouldn't it matter where the extra weight is? I would think that if the extra 3+ lbs was in the fuse around the firewall, landing gear plate, wing tube socket and the...

RE: Hanger 9 80" CAP

Haven't flown mine in a while either. I've got a little more than 2 gallons through it. No bad, all good. Because it is so easy to fly, it will be first one up this spring when I get back to the...

RE: Hanger Nine 80" cap232..CG??

Been flying mine at 6.5" back from the leading edge at the fuselage. I've tried back as far as 7 1/8" but didn't like the snaps. It will waterfall like no tomorrow at 6.5" and Lomcevaks (sp?) are way...

How's it fly?...

Awesome!!!!!

Not a single disappointment. Tracks great, excellent tumbles, easy to land.

The second advantage is that the wing bag will also serve as a sleeping bag.

Still trying to...

smallest lightest mount I could find

I'm running a World Models 160 size mount w/ 3/4" RCS standoffs. I've cut the mount down to the bare minimum. So far no problems. I drilled and tapped the holes 5mm for the engine mount and used...

Thin CA works awesome!

I just finished repairing my gear after dead-sticking my Cap right into a fence [:'(]

I spread the gear open far enough to get the CA to flow all the way through. I flexed it a few times to make...

Century servo arms & Hitec arms

Hi Mark,

I think you will be fine using the stock Hitec arms for the ailerons. You are looking at less than 20* full deflection.

Here is the link for the Century arms.
