RE: Mechanical Desktop

IV will do this. In the sketch, in the panel bar, click on the autodimension tool (icon looks like a lightning bolt through a dimension). This brings up a dialog which indicates how many dimensions...

RE: Autodesk Inventor Users

oh, I already know the answer, I want to demonstrate it. And nesting line drawings isnt really it, you still have to do the nesting manually. it's much more about flexibility in making changes,...

RE: Autodesk Inventor Users

I won't finish that one. If I want to build it, I have the plans. I did find one problem with a part in it when I went to model it that the original author then went and fixed.

I don't get...

RE: Autodesk Inventor Users

I've used IV for a few years. I do production work in 10 and play around with 11. My seat is off subscription, so I won't be getting 2008, which I understand shipped yesterday.

I've monkeyed...

RE: Dust collector

There's a ton of information out on the web just waiting to be googled.

The 35 micron bag on that thing is very porous and will only capture big dust particles. This might help keep your shop...

RE: Come try Delta Cad? It's great!

this has always bugged me because it is backwards! every other cad program that I can recall, even autodesk's own 3d modeler, uses scroll back to zoom out, scroll in to zoom in. there's an arx file...

RE: Estimated plan printing cost

I use adobe acrobat 6 at the moment and I know one of the options for printing to acrobat is "ignore line weights". Check the pdf printer settings. You should be able to tell by looking at the PDF...

RE: Want to learn AutoCad?

wicked! I know a guy who teaches Autodesk Inventor and he pulls a sort of similar trick during the final exam. 2 hours into a difficult 3 hour final, he goes and trips the circuit breaker for the...

RE: 3d Laser Scanning

errr, if you're paying $100 a pop to get a plastic model scanned... why not go whole hog, spend $2500 and get a scanto3d machine. turnkey desktop laser scanning (and skinning) for $2500. frickin...

RE: Best way to post CAD drawing?

That can't be, because I have a 24" roll feed connected to this machine, and no printers that support 11x17 (though I can print pdfs to that size).

I *believe* it is a limitation of Adobe...

RE: free CAD

so it's lofting from one profile to the next? this could be a good way to go from scaled sections to 3d solid and then cut it where you want formers to get formers. I would hesitate to say that...

RE: Bezier vs Spline

google, wikipedia, and the terms bezier, spline, NURBS, and b-spline should get you started.

some terms to look out for: uniform, interpolated, natural.

interpolated means that a point...

RE: Solid Edge 2D printing

I just looked quickly and I think you're right - the print dialog for solidedge 2d (its not solidworks :) ) seems a little lacking. no print preview, not a ton of options. They have a peer support...

RE: free CAD

there's no mention of anticompetition measures in the eula, and all my autodesk products work fine after a day and a couple of restarts. I think that's a bit of an extreme (and poorly thought out)...

RE: Question: Why some formers in the drawings are cut in half?

err, no, I think you need them in 2 pieces each. I believe bruce is right that the designer intended the fuse to be built in halves. build the left half first, flat on the building board, then...

I think it would help if you did name names rather than generalize all entry-level free/cheap cad apps with the drawbacks you saw on one or a few. I think you could be a little more...
