RE: please help make carbon landing gear

If done properly, it will not de-lam, and would break before bending. If it bends, it's probably to thin to begin with, or made with the wrong type of resin.

Once you have a form or mold,...

RE: Parting Wax nightmares...

Meguire's Gold Carnuba Wax is THE best! It's easy to use and does a great job. I've made literally thousands of parts with it. I always apply 6 coats to a plug before lay up, and six coats to a mold...

RE: Glider ID and questions

Glad I could help. I don't get out to fly as much as I'd like these days, so it always makes me feel good if I can help someone.

RE: Glider ID and questions

I can't say I recognize the specific aircraft, but I can tell you about holding the wings and stab on. Judging by what I see, it should be a fine flyer.

A rubber band or a spring can be used to...

RE: Mold Flange Adhesive

Jake,

I used to use clay and a razor blade myself. Try the bondo method on your next mold. The first time I tried it I was amazed at how much better the joint between the two halves was.

RE: Mold Flange Adhesive

Moldmaker is right. The best flange edges I've ever gotten was using bondo. Leave a little sticking up above the flange, pop the plug out, sand it flush with the flange, re-install the plug and lay...

RE: Airtronics Cumic Bought

Bob,

You beat me to that Cumic by about 6 hours. I had talked to Mike (the guy selling it) about it several days earlier, but could not get there to pick it up until Friday night. It is indeed...

RE: Want to built airfoil tail insted of flat

A good choice for tailplanes is the NACA 008 or 009. The numbers indicate camber and thickness. The camber is zero (symetrical) and the thickness is either 8% or 9%. Another good choice is the Helmut...

RE: New to Scale Gliders

Although I haven't flown either one of these aircraft, I can make an evaluation based on their specs. It is made easier since they both utilize the same airfoil. The ASW22 with the 2.8 meter wing...

RE: Hinge Tape

If you check with the specialty sailplane suppliers you will find several options. Also, I have used 3M 600 clear tape on sailplanes that flew over 100mph with no problems. Only drawback to 3M 600 is...

RE: Wing Sheeting Question

any of the products you mentioned would work fine. Without vacuum bagging, balsa might be the best bet. Obechi is another good skin material. 6.3 inches is a pretty short chord for an 8 foot wing. If...

RE: Securing the wings on your glider!

I haven't used anything except vinyl tape for about 15 years, have never had a failure. I have used it on anything with a glass fuseand two piece wings, regardless of the construction of the wings....

RE: Butterfly setting

I fly a very heavy 2 meter composite sailplane (52 oz.) and it will slow down nicely for landings, using near 90 degrees of flaps and considerable down elevator mixed in, no movement of the ailerons....

RE: How to make wing molds?

Making molded wings is not necessarily difficult, but it has to be done correctly or you will be very disappointed. Here is a link to a sight that shows and explains the entire process on a full...

RE: Sailplanes you have had?

Joe,

The Wanderer "99" was mostly had a modified fuselage and tail feathers, the wing was pretty much stock with the exception of different wing tips. The wing tips were the turned up hoerner...

RE: what kind of FG mold separator

Two things;

1. To Cadmn; We use Epoxy because it is more stable, stronger, and less brittle. It also is much nicer to use since it doesn't smell so bad.

2. To VMC; Try using PVA wiped into...

Strawboss,

I know this is old, but I never noticed it before. I thought I would point out a couple of inaccuracies in your statement.

I did indeed modify Ralph Saxton's fuse for my laminar...

RE: CF landing gear

The combination of woven and tow will work well. Don't bother with th fiberglass, it will just add weight and bulk that you don't want or need.

Actually it would be the oyther way round. Set up the sailplane on the workbench with the tailplane at "0", then adjust the wing for 1.5. Just to make sure you understand, that means the leading edge...
