Joystick controller

If you mean you want to drive the 9C from a joystick rather than it's own controls then sorry but that's not how buddy cords work. The joystick would need to produce an electronic signal like a buddy...

Complete beginner

You only need one battery. The speed controller then regulates the power to the receiver and servos. But a MicroJet is NOT a good model for a complete beginner, it's too fast and tricky to fly unless...

Painting/colouring balsa models

What size/type of plane are we talking about ? I wouldn't use the same techniques for a small free flight model as a monster R/C model.

These days most people use heat-shrinkable plastic films...

Reciever and Crystal

Receivers are either dual or single conversion. The crystal must match the receiver.

GWS make a number of different receivers and I'm sure one of them would work for you. You need a Futaba/Hitec...

will this chrystal work, Sing;e radio with Dual chrystal

The crystal will only work in certain Hitec receivers. If you say what model of Hitec receiver you are thinking of using the crystal in someone might be able to answer.

If it is the correct type...

Another Starting Question !!!!!!!

No it is not O.K. to fly without a spinner (the one that fits on the engine, you confuse things by using exactly the same word for the starter !). It is against BMFA rules to have a bare prop nut and...

JR transmitter versus other receviers

What frequency do you fly on ? The shift problem Harry is refering to, which means JR and Airtronics are compatible with one another but not with Futaba/Hitec, is not *purely* North American but it...

Where to buy in the UK

I suggest talking to your chosen club before deciding on Mode 1 or 2. I know several clubs in the Midlands and North that fly exclusively Mode 1. Mode 2 is certainly common in some areas but not all....

Nimh In Auto Mode?????

Interesting general point. I guess it depends on the charger. I stick to auto mode almost all the time, basically for exactly the reason Red gives for avoiding it like the plague.

I am certain...

Re: Where to buy in the UK

No that would be a very expensive mistake because the radio equipment sold in the US cannot legally be used in the UK. It's on completely the wrong frequency band.

Why / When does taildraggers take over trikes

I don't know where you're looking but every single ARTF trainer I've seen for many years has a trike undercarriage and many ARTF sports model now do too.

If anything I'd say it's taildraggers that...

probably a stupid question (go ahead... LOL)

Of course you might burn out the load in your VM. They're really intended for intermittent use not to be left under power, generating heat, for many hours.

long distance control

Technically it obviously is possible because the Army/Navy do it all the time with reconnaissance drones.

However standard RC gear does not have the range and using anything more powerful or...

This may be a stupid question ?

The world outside America (if it exists ;)) uses +ve shift. I have no knowledge of why Futaba/Hitec chose to do something different on 72MHz.

The cynical among us might think that the US is a big...

This may be a stupid question ?

Dragonheart,

Careful ! All of the information above applies only to the US and their 72MHz frequency band. Given in good faith I'm sure but by people who forget that America is not the whole...

I guess it depends how you were "brought up". When I was learning Internetting on the newsgroups, before there were many web forums, it was considered bad manners to waste bandwidth and people's time...

Difference btwn PCM and FM (PPM) ???

Nice idea but unfortunately not really true. There is no validation at the level of individual transmitters.

It only checks that it's from a transmitter like yours i.e. any Futaba PCM Tx at all...

Problem with different brands of Tx & Rx

If you haven't yet checked that the pins that the RF module connects to are securely soldered I suggest you do it now ! Bad solder joints on those pins was a known fault with some older FF8s. The...

Solartex open edge sealing,tissue/dope?

Dope sticks to Solartex just fine. I've used doped tissue trim over Solartex before now. Anyway you'll want a coat or two of varnish/dope/fuel proofer etc over the whole thing won't you ? Otherwise...

Problem with different brands of Tx & Rx

Indeed. Most lubricants are also pretty good insulators, not something you need between the sections of an antenna. Oils also tend to capture dirt. I fairly regularly *clean* mine and check it's...

Problem with different brands of Tx & Rx

I use several Hitec Rxs with my FF8 (35MHz like I guess yours is) and get I excellent range on all of them. It's definitely a transmitter fault. The most likely problem is that the antenna is not...

Will my receivers work?

Your receivers will work with the 9C Tx which can be swiched into PPM mode.

As for PCM vs PPM I'm not getting into that. It has already been debated to death many times. Try a search.
