RE: HobbyKing Turnigy Rotomax 1.60

I thought that too but it might just be the shipping weight.

RE: Designing a new pattern model

Fantastic, you have done an awesome job. Can you share the file so we lesser mortals can learn from your design tree? I have done a DA 50 recently but it is nothing on this.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Glued the rudder hinges in, the rudder will not get glued to the tail post until after painting. The control horns will be dual control horns so glued them together with a piece of 5mm ply between...

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Shimmed the mass balance with tape to get a good fit for the rudder. Used a sharpened hinge point to mark the position of the hinges on the tail post.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Got her up on the wheels the other day. I will need to modify the tail wheel mount for the correct stance.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Made stops in the fuse for the rudder post to but up against to bold its position while gluing. I needed to pad out the rudder post with 1/32" balsa both sides so it would fit properly.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

The muffler will be a MTW TD110. This is quite big and will intrude into the cockpit slightly however it is a really good match for the DA 85. The prop will be a 26x10.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Got the final standoff done. Notice the custom pencil for marking the bottom standoff. The fit is pretty good just a little fine tuning to do. Will put 4 layers of 200gm carbon on the false...

RE: Japanese F3A planes

I have one too, he seemed to be using a special cutter for small letters. Nice backup Jeff.

RE: Japanese F3A planes

That is a really good blog. I wish Google could do a better job translating Japanese. I would like to use silk but it is very expensive and hard to get in the weights that they use. I couldn't...

RE: Japanese F3A planes

The Japanese wood models are really well thought out but not unusual in aerodynamic design. You can get as good a result from a Black Magic. It would be nice to have an open source design or two...

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Hi David thanks for the diagram. I am doing alternative 1 with a rubber washer through the hole in the ply. I have tried to illustrate the construction in one of the previous photos sorry if it...

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Here is the mounting system on my Su 29KS. Of course there is not enough room in the mustang for this and it would be too soft closer in to the motor.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Hi Dave I would love to hear (and see) your ideas for a soft mount. It is not too late to change it. Actually my favoured system would be a Hyde mount but the nose ring would be pretty complex and...

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Alan have just been looking at the DA 85 manual again. They do not recommend usinng stand offs and will not cover the motor if they are used. I think this is because of the possibility of...

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Here are some more pictures of progress. On the left you can see how the rubber isolator system works. The stiffness can be adjusted with the length of the central ali spigot thingy. The false...

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Hi Alan 100mm x22mm sounds OK to me as long as it all fits. Got any pictures?

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Here are some of the parts for the rubber mount. I cut rubber with a sharpened tube and use glycerine as a lube.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Alan do you mean shaft extension? I think any extension will void your warantee. The limiting factor is side loads on the bearings due to gyroscopic precession, not sure what that limit is depends...

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Hi Jack the shaft extension is 51mm long as is the central spigot that carries the prop. Unfortunately the central spigot extension is around .5mm out of true so I will need to revisit that and get...

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51

Here are a few more shots of the engine installation. Thats as tight as I could get the header, the motor will need to be angled to one side slightly to give the header clearance.
