RE: Newbie to Scratch Build

I am in exactly the same situation as you, except about 3 weeks in :P.

I too am designing my first RC aircraft, and a few people here have helped me along the way. I shall attempt to give you an...

RE: Want to learn AutoCad?

Yeah, I'm using that site too for learning it.

I have been fortunate enough to avoid the bit of autoCAD cost, due to having an engineer father with autoCAD on his laptop.

RE: Wow! Nice design!

To me that looks either extremely well made, or extremely real. Superb idea, and yes I dont think you could go too far wrong with the CG there :)

RE: building an osprey

I saw a tester model a student at strathclyde uni made a year back or so based on the osprey in its helicopter mode. Using 2 motors and manual control it was completely impossible to keep it balanced...

RE: Control Surface Proportions

Heh, yeah you seem to have guessed right :).
Whilst I have researched other designs, to see what people have done to get what abilities in their aircraft, I am not planning on butchering the other...

Control Surface Proportions

Well, I am making my first R/C aircraft, and doing it from scratch. Dont worry, I know I am throwing myself in at the deep end, with punctures in my water wings. But feel good, since BMatthews talked...

RE: Wanting to build my first R/C. Please Help.

This thread has links to just about every site with a supply of good quality free plans around. When I was trawling for typhoon plans I noticed several for the old 109s of all types, so you should...

RE: Help a beginner with his Hawker Typhoon

the indevidual wing length is 57cm, and the strip ailerons are each 50cm, so most of the length is used. Should I use more? As for the fin/rudder areas etc, I am basically basing my proportions off...

RE: Help a beginner with his Hawker Typhoon

I can ammend the aileron dimensions easily enough. is 12% a better figure? And I want this to be the second model "sporty trainer", for when I graduate off my neighbour's regular trainer.

The...

RE: Now that winter is upon us...

Well, I have only been here a week, and am myself making my first design & build, so I wont participate for obvious reasons, but can i suggest you add to the rules that it be a 'Could be to scale'? I...

RE: Help a beginner with his Hawker Typhoon

Well, I would still rather build a plane for the engine. If I see a good deal on a similar size engine whilst I am building i will probably get that instead, but I have been practicing in G3...

RE: The Mystery Engine

Oh, and does anyone know how big fuel tank i should get to give me about 10 mins endurance? And is there a specific fuel mix prefered by this creature or is straight diesel acceptable?

RE: Help a beginner with his Hawker Typhoon

Well, the vintage forum has payed off. apparently it is a ED Hunter, first made in 1949/50, and that it is a whole 3.46cc. Good thing I haddnt finished designing for 1.5cc!
I have had a trawl of...

RE: The Mystery Engine

Many thanks, you have saved me a load of time and headaches...especially if I had just ploughed on ahead thinking it was a 1.5cc and just ended up ripping my airframe to shreads :P

The Mystery Engine

Well, I tried in my scratch build thread, I tried in the Q&A board, but alas no luck, and now I ahve been directed here, so you had better not let me down! (well, actually you can feel free to if you...

RE: The Mystery Engine

Ah, sorry, perhaps I wasnt being clear enough (i always do that). The peoblem is not the math, but the weight of the thing leads me to suspect that it isnt actually a 1.5cc, but something bigger. I...

RE: The Mystery Engine

um, sorry, you lost me. where did I say it is 10cc? All I know is it said 1.5cc on the box, but that was just a hand written label which seems to be wrong unless this engine is greatly obese. Do you...

The Mystery Engine

Well, I am scratch building an aircraft to go around an engine I was given by my grandfather that came in a little box labeled "1.5cc diesel" and no documentation. I just took it for that. It weighs...

RE: Help a beginner with his Hawker Typhoon

Many thanks, I shall look up the engine in some other forums, see if they can shed some light on anything. If you dont mind once I get this sorted I want to make a new thread for this to encourage...

RE: Help a beginner with his Hawker Typhoon

Well, earlier today I made a rough specification and made some calculations and now (I think) have a plan ready for drawing up.

Purpose: Advanced trainer.

RE: My new desing

Also rethink your wheel cover (sorry, dont know the real name). At the moment if all 3 wheels are flat on the ground, the back corner of that will be poking underground.
