In reading through the answers you got it seems that an engine out situation is everybodies main concern. Have you considered electric power? Can't hardly get more reliable than that....

I doubt that they are much more dangerous than gasoline. Just a matter of becoming as familiar in the care and feeding process. Exercising due care is important in any endeavor.
