RE: Real Flight G3.5 - Plane Substitution for Hobbistar 60

The manufacturers (Great Planes, Sig, Hanger-9, etc.) would do themselves (and us) a great favor by creating sim models for all of their planes for the popular flight sims (RF, FSOne, etc.) I don't...

RE: Question about engines

Diesels are not very common in the U.S., but they are popular in Europe in the same way that diesel cars are more popular in Europe.

Two problems with diesels: they stink and the fuel is hard to...

RE: Please help me with landing *Video* Tower Trainer 4 and H9 Twist

Hey, don't feel too bad. Even the professionals don't always get it right.

RE: taking care of a motor

Ah, your actual question. You should get:

1. Motor spray to clean out the gunk that accumulates.
2. Spare brushes as they don't last forever.
3. Motor lathe, or if that's too much $, a comm...

RE: taking care of a motor

I guess it's all just relative. $100 to me is a pittance, but to others it's a lot of money, which is why they look for cheaper ways to get the job done.

I'll stand by the fact that a motor...

RE: taking care of a motor

Or buy a motor lathe. They're not expensive--around $100.

RE: Help me select my trainer

Yeah, you and the guy down the street who revs his Harley for 20 minutes every morning at 5:00am before he leaves for work. [:@]

RE: New to Planes

I think your wish to "go with a nice plane in the begging (sic) so i will never have to upgrade" is misguided. You need to start with a trainer, or something like one (e.g. Big Stik) before you move...

Sig LT40 Electric

I had all but decided on a glow powered LT40 as a trainer for myself and my son, but looking on Sig's web site I see that they have an electric version of the LT40. It's the same plane as the...

RE: Help me select my trainer

Since lots of people recommend the Sig LT40 as a good trainer, what do y'all think of the LT40 Electric RTF version?

It has a FlyWare outrunner motor and the Sig web page claims it gets 10...

RE: How cold is too cold to fly?

It's not too cold as long as the fuel is still a liquid.

RE: New Kit

I don't know about that! I have RealRace G2 (an R/C car simulator) and can barely get the car around the track at a really slow speed.

RE: New Kit

Is it worthwhile getting the Factory Team version, or is it more delicate due to the carbon fiber chassis? Since I'm a beginner, I'll probably crash it a lot learning to drive.

New Kit

Is an Associated TC4 Team Kit a good choice for a 1/10 touring car for a total beginner? I have no experience whatsoever driving RC cars (I can fly R/C planes and helicopters, but I assume this has...

Why don't the Manufacturers...

...create sim models for each of their helicopters for the popular flight simulators (G3.5, FSOne, etc.) and post them on their web sites or include them on the CD that comes with the kit/RTF?

RE: Electric or Gas

Yes, I agree that LiPo batteries are expensive, but as economies of scale start to kick in I expect the prices to come way down in the next few months/years.

My prediction: a 6S2P 4000 mAh...

RE: Electric or Gas

Thanks. Yes, I mean "nitro" and not "gas" as in gasoline, but having called model engines "glow" (or the slang term gas) engines for upwards of 30 years now, I have a hard time referring to them as...

Electric or Gas

Is a T-Rex 600 a reasonable substitute for a .50 size gas helicopter for a beginner? What kinds of flight times are possible?

RE: Lipo batteries

Some people at my field put lipos in a ceramic crock pot while they're charging them in case they catch on fire.

Simulator Question: Hovering

RE: First Heli Advice Needed

Thanks for all the advice. Here's a summary of the advice and how I intend to implement it:

1. Buy Raptor 50 kit, including training gear (rather than RTF since building it from a kit helps one...

RE: Alpha 40, 60 or Nextar? Whats the best for me?

I'd recommend a 60-size trainer over a 40. One of the problems beginners have is seeing the orientation of the plane, and this is where bigger is better.

RE: electric or gas.

Gas is still the way to go for a trainer. You can get a bigger, better flying model for less than the equivalent electric.

Electric has come a long way in the last few years, and IMO is the...

RE: Which radio?

There seems to be two camps here as well. Some advocate buying a cheap, simple radio as a beginner, and others advocate buying the most capable computer radio you can afford right from the outset.
