RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

Whenever I get a new wing for a cub I tape the entire wing, top and bottom lengthwise with regular clear 3m packing tape. I still use the struts though. But now with the reinforced wing I don't have...

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

I guess I was mostly trying to get my cub to roll as sharply as my wingdragon4. I upgraded the WD4 to a brushless outrunner and it rolls like the nose is in a pencil sharpener. Try as I might with...

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

Has anyone ever done an aileron mod making the aileron 3 to 4 inches wide? All the mods I've ever seen are 2" or less. How do you think the plane would react with ailerons this big (16"x4")?

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

Just some info about paint. You can actually use pretty much any spray paint on the cub. It really doesn't have to be foam safe or even water based. This gives you a bigger range of colors to choose...

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan

I mis spoke in my last post. The stock is 960kv but it is the power 15 that is only 950kv and that's the one you said you were using. So why would a 950kv motor be better than a 960 kv motor. ?

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan

I must be missing something here. The stock trojan motor is a 960KV motor. The Eflite power 10 is a 950kv motor. So where is the advantage? I believe that a 10x7 prop will increase performance but...

If you are the only one at this field don't stop looking for other fields. Last year there were myself and 3 others who flew at a park field. Now there are about 30 or 40 who fly...

RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF

I haven't seen any posts anywhere where someone has upgraded the motor on the electristar. Does anyone know of an upgrade?

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

I've tried several motors in the cub and the one I liked best was the e-flite Park 480 1020 kv with either a 10 x 7 or 11 x 7 prop. I had to shim up the front of the tail assembly to stop it from...

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan

That's a great engine mount. I didn't know they were available. Where did you get it? I go through the plastic ones like they were popcorn. If you stray just off the blacktop runway at our field on...

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

You will need new servos and a new esc but you can keep your motor. The servos, receiver, and esc in the cub are all 5 wire. Don't know of anything else that uses this.

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

My prop change tail of woe.

I changed one of my cubs to a brushless Eflite Park 480 outrunner 1020KV. Oringinally used a 10x7 prop and all was well. Then I swithced to an 11x7 prop and all was...

Instead of cutting out the ailerons from the existing wing planform, did you consider adding ailerons to the aft edges instead (effectively giving the wing more surface area when they...

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

You must have missed the posts about putting a drop module circuit in and upgraded Cub, or any plane for that matter. JohnPCunningham sells a circuit board that is about the size of a penny that...

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

I'm not 100% sure about this but I believe what snapperZ said is true and it is only a concern on Nicad or Nimh. Lipos don;t appreciably lose much charge over a few days or so.

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

Boy does this hit a nerve. This is exactly the kind of crap you run into with clubs that makes me steer completely clear of them. Don't get me wrong. I don't think all clubs are just evil but they...

Brandon
As you can see there are lots of opinions every time this question is posed. I always chime in on the side of the Lipo from a stand point of performance, longer flight times and being able...

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

The power rating of a motor seems to be an especially important number when comparing motors.

Some motors give you the power rating but many do not. Now I know that watts = V*A but what volts?...

Oh yeah, I should also report that the 2 guys on the ground with the blankets were very dissapointed cause the plane never passed either one of them. Now I can tell them that if anyone asks why...

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan

I can't speak on all this radar stuff but I can address deacceleration with some accuracy.

My Trojan was flying straight and level. I'll assume the speed to be between 20mph to 70mph so as not...

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

That's good to know. The park 480 1097KVA motor is 275 watts. The motor I choose is 340 watts so it looks like it might be a bit of overkill.

This motor gave me the power rating but many do not....

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

Here's a picture of the field. Unfortunately aerial recon won't help here plus no one is goin to fly over those trees on purpose.because they are so high the angle is such you'd loose track quickly....
