RE: Pattern sequence designer?

No offense Doug, but it's actually FAI world competition. The "International Aerobatic Club" is in fact the USA's aerobatic organisation. Always something of a sore point amoungst other countries!

The term "Spoileron" originally reffered to differential spoilers the were used for roll control. the advent of computer radios and individual aileron servos has led to this new...

What makes a plane fly slowly?

Sorry, but that's not true. If there is 20 knots of crosswing, a pattern plane, F3d racer, park flyer or concorde flys sideways at a gound speed of... 20 knots

What makes a plane fly slowly?

Only one thing makes an aeroplane fly slowly on a down line...Drag

To fly at the same speed on an upline...Power

To fly at that speed straight and level... A throttle!!!

Aileron shovels?? Anyone tried them?

I don't think shovels (also sometimes called spades) have a real purpose on models. Their purpose on full size aircraft is to lighten control forces at high speeds, as all the motive power available...

How to start an argument...

No, not off topic. In fact re-enforcing the point I was making. You don`t have to be at slow speed to stall, neither do you have to be stalled just because you`re at slow speed.

Still, we`ve done...

How to start an argument...

No, you're not at zero airspeed, but you're not at zero "G" either. Stall speed varies as the square-root of Load Factor ("G"), so by subjecting the aircraft to a vertical acceleration, you increase...

How to start an argument...

Luke,

The point of the thread wasn't to argue about the name of a maneuver, but to point out a fairly common mis-conception about the principle of what constituted a stall.

From your reply I...

How to start an argument...

Hi Ben,

Obviously it would be a combiation of both thrust vector and fuselage lift. Modern Pattern aircraft can sustain knife edge at a much lower angle of attack than older style aircraft, which...

How to start an argument...

With you right up to the last line! Sitting on the ground there is no turbulent airflow (no laminar either!!) so you couldn't say it was stalled, unstalled or whatever.

I do get what you say about...

How to start an argument...

Hi Regegade,

I think we are talking at a bit of a cross purpose. You are right that the reason some aircraft wobble is because of a lack of directional stability at low speed. However, if the...

A stall is a breakdown of laminar flow due to excessive angle of...

How to start an argument...

No it's not laminer, but it's not turbulent either!!

This might be of interest:-

Typically, the lift begins to decrease at an angle of attack of about 15 degrees. The forces necessary to bend...

How to start an argument...

RENEGADE,

I have done HUNDREDS of stall turns in full size aircraft including Pitts, Decathlon, Extra and laser types. No, the stall warning did not go off once. Why? Stall warnings are triggered...

How to start an argument...

Having no airspeed DOES NOT MEAN STALLED!!!

When your airplane is sitting on your workbench, is it stalled? Stalled means the airflow has become non-laminer because the section has exceeded the...

CHassan,

That's exactley right as to the "Why" a wing stalls. "When" it stalls is also important.

How to start an argument...

Hi P51,

Didn't see this when I first replied:-

Sorry, not correct. If an aircraft is in a controlled descent, the wing is producing less lift than weight, but it is not stalled. Same when...

How to start an argument...

Angle of attack equals angle between chord line and relative airflow. If the aircraft is moving, the wing has an angle of attack.

And, if its just being "Pulled by the prop", how can you do an...
