....forgot to mention....it doesn't have to be super-duper scratched up. Just something to eliminate most of the shine on the body. 600 grit works well, as does gray or purple scotch brite pads. ...

I'm a custom painter & I always recommend roughing up a surface before you paint it. As mentioned above, it helps the paint adhere better (gives it some "tooth" to hang on to). Picture yourself...

I do a lot of custom airbrushing & painting....what you want is some type of clear coat to protect the paint. Just buy some rattle-can clear or matte finish and spray on a couple coats of that. ...
