Man,for a crank to be bent that far back, the case had to be trashed too. seems like the bearing/drive washer should have prevented bending that far back[:-]

IMHO the shields would keep the cages IN the bearing if failure occurs,I say this because I have a 46fx that digested a front cage and its not pretty. (scored crank,grooved block)

No Dar, it is flat and very thin,it may be tool steel as it's not dull like a cast iron ring would be.
