RE: Sig Somethin Extra - build tips and mods compilation

Red B. Nice pictures. I like the flaps. Such a nice looking plane, too.

And for those of you that are flush with cash, you can put some carbon fiber on your Sig Somethin' Extra. I was looking...

RE: Sig Somethin Extra - build tips and mods compilation

Seamus,

Thanks for those detailed pictures on your hatch. Shows one more way to do it. Looks very nice, and secure.

My hope was to make this a focused thread where people can talk about...

RE: Sig Somethin Extra - build tips and mods compilation

Alright, thanks for those tips!

I am trying to imagine how I would shave 1/16" inch off the stringers and tops of the formers on the turtle deck. I'm guessing that would be far easier to do...

RE: Sig Somethin Extra - build tips and mods compilation

I have received some PMs. Here is something for number 11 above. Regarding making the entire front of the fuselage part of the removable hatch.

12) Tip plates on the ends of the wings...

Sig Somethin Extra - build tips and mods compilation

Hello all. I've been away from here for about two years. Time to pick things back up.
I started a Sig Something Extra (SSE) about two years ago. All I got built was the wing. Well, I've got...

RE: [Help me pick] .40 sized Electric Arf

Well, I just read through 24 pages on RCUniverse - the thread for the GP Extra 300.
It looks like a great plane. Its getting into that size range where most people would seem to rather power it...

RE: [Help me pick] .40 sized Electric Arf

Thanks again for everyone's input. You've helped both narrow, and in some cases, widen my short-list.

I'm adding ceecrb1's recommendation of the Great Planes Extra 300 sp. It is the largest on...

RE: [Help me pick] .40 sized Electric Arf

Tommy D. Chaos, I like that recommendation, too. Popular at the club as well.
I'm sure it would do what I'm looking for.

I have to admit, though, the Edges, Extras, Katanas, Yaks, Sukhois,...

RE: [Help me pick] .40 sized Electric Arf

Hmm, not bad. Eflight Extra 300 32e has a 52.5 inch wingspan.

RE: [Help me pick] .40 sized Electric Arf

Sure, I'll re-quote my OP here:

I don't really do much 3D. I like doing rolls, stalls, spins, dives, passes over the runway, etc. I want a plane that looks good doing it! The min pulse has a...

RE: [Help me pick] .40 sized Electric Arf

Did some poking around this morning. Now I'm starting to favor the Great Planes Edge 540 over the Phoenix Katana.
They both use the same recommended motor. The Great Planes is lighter, has less...

RE: [Help me pick] .40 sized Electric Arf

Thanks all, please keep the suggestions coming.

The bipe looks cool, but I already have a Pitts Python bipe.

The suggested Nitroplanes one is out of stock and they don't seem to have a...

[Help me pick] .40 sized Electric Arf

Hello all,

I need help picking out a new ARF. I have owned my E Flite mini-pulse for a few years now and I enjoy flying the heck out of it:

RE: CA Tip Cleaning

By the way BankYank, I'm envious of where you live. In mid 90's I was based out in the middle of nowhere around Pierce and Weippe... some of the most beautiful country out there on the Clearwater.

RE: CA Tip Cleaning

Sounds like I need to try a different brand of Acetone.
I try my best to clear the tip before I toss it in the butter-tub with Acetone... but there is always some left in there... usually right at...

CA Tip Cleaning

Ok, I've read in posts that people just soak these tips in Acetone (nail polish remover) overnight and presto.. their tips are clean.

I'm not having this kind of luck when I do it. I'm using...

RE: ZeroGravity Pitts Python 42"

I guess I have small enough hands (they're in some of the pictures). Plus, as you can tell in the second-to-last assembly picture, my battery is moved fairly far aft. I don't have too much of a...

RE: ZeroGravity Pitts Python 42"

Not sure which Hacker motor you're trying there for $280. The Hacker I mentioned in the build specs was purchased for about $80 or so.
Some folks have gone with the Scorpion, but others were a bit...

RE: ZeroGravity Pitts Python 42"

Glad to hear you got it all together. You could try going with bigger batteries for a longer flight experience and go with a more permanent mounting solution, then build a charging plug on the...

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

Instead of using ACT for nav system, why not use X-port? Its easier, plus you can turn it off and on with your transmitter. There are pre-built kits like Hyperdyne's kit. It even has pass-through...

RE: Herr Mini-Sport - my first kit build

Its a Great Plains 36" building board. I think SIG makes a similar building board. It was overpriced, really ($20). I could buy a defect hollow core door and ceiling tiles for about the same......

RE: Herr Mini-Sport - my first kit build

Thanks for the compliment. It took me a long time to do the covering. It was tedious, and I wasn't thrilled with it. I found it difficult. I'm sure it would come easier with practise, but its not...
