If the forward wing is set to negative incidence,...

If the forward wing is set to negative incidence, doesn't that mean the stall will be delayed and the lower wing will stall first? I understood the negative incidence was to account for a different...

RE: Scratch 10% Bristol Beaufighter build

That is a beautiful airplane. I wish I had that level of skill.

I chose the engine size in rough comparison to the Top-Flite DC-3, which sizes up about the same as your DC-3. The four-stroke...

RE: Scratch 10% Bristol Beaufighter build

Nice Capt G! Malta colours? I noticed no dorsal fin. We will build ours with the dorsal fin to help with directional stability.

No progress to report just now. I am working on getting my...

RE: Scratch 10% Bristol Beaufighter build

Jaka, funny you say that. I was actually worried it would not be enough. My feeling is that the .40's are about right for this aircraft. Now .48's I would agree would be too much, but .40's seem...

RE: Scratch 10% Bristol Beaufighter build

Wayne,

I'll keep you posted for sure. What club do you fly from? I'm at Cap City.

I bought a push pull kit but with the stab located so high and the dihedral, I think it's going to be...

Scratch 10% Bristol Beaufighter build

A friend and I decided to build a 10% scale Beaufighter. There are not a lot of them out there, so far as I can tell. The wingspan will be 69". Power will be two Saito .40s. As you can see from...

RE: SPITFIRE XIV RACER .25 size SCRATCH BUILD

I hope this works out for you better than it did for me!

Here are some photos of a similar project in the middle of painting. I built a .25 size Battle of Briton era "sport" spit ( Mk II?). I...

RE: extending Firewall

Using rabetted joints would probably be stronger and simpler than dowelling, but if the forces are transmitted back to the firewall, it is probably all overkill, since all you really need is a...

Venturi vacuums

After nearly forty years of built up wings, I am considering vacuum bagging my next project. I have looked at all the refrigerator vacuum pump designs for this purpose, but they all seem like a lot...

RE: CMP Mosquito / Saito 30 Four Strokes.

How big is the CMP Mossie? My scratch Mossie is 54" wingspan, and runs on twin Norvel .15's About 5 lbs, I believe.

I have a Saito .30, and I would say it is like a weak .25. Sounds great,...

RE: What is a Selig 8036 Airfoil?

I have flown two airplanes with this airfoil, and neither have displayed any nasty tendencies. It seems very forgiving. In fact, if you search on this forum, you can find that the designer has...

RE: Tissue issues

Ritt,

In recent years. I have returned to covering all my aircraft in silkspan or tissue. Campy's suggestions are right on. But here's what I suggest: for tissue, don't try wetting it until...

RE: Tissue issues

What size of model are you talking about? I want to know if you're talking about true tissue, or silkspan.

RE: Copyrights on plane designs

The thing to understand about copyright (or even patents) is that enforcement is entirely a private affair.

If I publish a set of plans, and wish to protect my copyright, I must sue everyone...

RE: Copyrights on plane designs

Like all things in the law it is a matter of interpretation. But in Canada, there is no copyright on an 'outline' or shape. There is copyright in plans. I can't see any court finding that an...

RE: New project -- "Belle 30"

Thanks for the comments.

The nose is too long. So I mounted all the radio gear rearward, but I'll still have to add tailweight. I just lost perspective a little from staring at the plans too...

New project -- "Belle 30"

What do you think?

Stats:

Wing: 45 in span, 400 sq inches
Power: Saito .30
Weight: 48 ozs (estimated final)

The cowl and wndscreen were homemade vacuum formed from scrap pet-g. My...

RE: Building From Plans :'(

Benny: good for you for trying plan building.

All of these guys have great advice. The only thing I would add is keep trying. If your first project does not work out so great, try another, and...

RE: Lil' Jumping Bean control line

I got a Lil Jumpin Bean for my 10th birthday in 1974. It was my first non-rubber flying kit build. Finished it in Curtis Blue (Pactra, I believe) Earlier that year I had been given a Stuntman and...

RE: Handley Page Halifax - Nexus Plans

Steiny,

I'm a member at CCF. I have a 54" Mosquito (scratch) with twin Norvel .15's. Flies well. I bet 4 for your Halifax would be perfect, and a bit more power than LA's.

RE: Help me choose a .15 engine

I bought two Norvel .15's this year. They are light, bushing motors, that turn over 14K on 10% with a MAS Scimitar 8X4. Also, cheap.
