I think that the difference between the two is the style of thermometer probes used.
It does not take the place of a transponder. It has a personal lap counter which is triggered by a Infrared...

All you need to do is buy a Y-harness to plug both tele and transponder to AUX/battery port.

I have a EB Mods NR 528X that I am rebuilding with a CEO modified piston/sleeve/conrod and during the rebuild I mistakenly pushed the sleeve all the way down into the engine case without connecting...
