RE: Trex 450 Sport - Maiden and first time flip!

Yeah, I think I'm going to change my training schedule to a more logical approach, I'm not yet comfortable with nose in hovering. I got 5 packs so I'll be getting a lot of air time, hopefully I'll be...

Trex 450 Sport - Maiden and first time flip!

So around about mid summer I decided I was going to get into helicopters. I've been flying nitro/gas planes for 5+ years and I wanted a new challenge. So I ordered up a Trex 450 Sport V3 kit and...

RE: Should I go flybarless?

I went ahead and bought myself another 450 (trex 450 sport v3) because I thought I might want to tune my skills on a more squirrely bird before flying a bigger flybarless one (I've heard you get more...

RE: First gasser, CRRC GF40i kit

I got the rcexl ignition and the engine starts 3rd or 4th flip every time now, I'm not sure about the spark gap but the rcexl ignition just rocks, I'm going to try to maiden the plane when I get the...

RE: Should I go flybarless?

Yeah I agree, a flybarless system would almost double the cost of setting up a .50 size heli. I think I'm just going to go with the old flybar.

Should I go flybarless?

I am looking to purchase my first big heli, I'm looking at 50-90 size (600-700) and I can't decide if I want to take the flybarless route. I'm an ok heli pilot I do a lil 3d like inverted hovering...

RE: Magnum XLS .52A

w8ye, you are exceedingly wise, idk how you come up with this stuff but yes that does seem more reasonable than making a change to the needle shape... I'll look at it for a while and come up with...

RE: Magnum XLS .52A

Sheared the bolts off? That's a new one, sounds like they were REALLY overtightened or the muffler was really heavy since you modded it and you had high vibration. It seems fine now i did a bunch...

RE: OS 110A question

You could try a hotter plug, the plug is cooling from fuel splashing it so you could even try an idle bar plug. I had this problem the I moved to an os #6 and problem solved.

RE: Magnum XLS .52A

Well I think I just gotta play around a lil more with it. I did PLENTY of hovering but flying at idle for a very long time and then trying to go vertical it will bog a bunch and the dead stick only...

Magnum XLS .52A

I just want to share my experience with the Mag 52 so far. So I bought it NIB from a guy at my club so no warranty, but I got it for $40 so I can't complain. Broke it on on an apc 11x5 and hangar 9...

RE: Magnum XLS 52 - A 'Hunk of Junk'?

I just picked up a Mag 52 NIB from a guy at my field. I have yet to run it but I have had many finicky engines pass through my hands and it seems that if you take the time to trouble shoot every...

RE: Prop spacing from cowl

Ok, I just got back from the hardware store and I got 1/4-20 bolts lock nuts etc and I got my engine all mounted then took some pics then test mounted the cowl and it's a good space. The bolts were a...

RE: Prop spacing from cowl

Anybody know what forum this should be in? The gas engine forum seems ok but I don't know. Anyway I got this all figured now so I'll post pics soon and it's coming nicely. Still need to fuel proof...

RE: Prop spacing from cowl

Tired old man, thank you sir for the pics, I was thinking about doing it that way but I don't trust my 60 year old drill press to drill straight through anything so I have to do it in segments. I...

RE: Prop spacing from cowl

Ok, now I built a secondary firewall out of 1/4 ply and I spaced the engine about a half inch from it with about 2 million washers and then I cut out 24 1" squares of 1/4 ply and they will stack up...

RE: Prop spacing from cowl

Yeah I did some mock up mounting and it seems to look good with a good inch of space. I'll need 2" or 2-1/2" standoffs and that's pretty big. I think I'll make another firewall out of ply and mount...

RE: Prop spacing from cowl

I don't know what you mean about moving the prop, I fully intend to move the engine and thank you sir for the information. I'll get some aluminum ones and probably end up making my own anyway to get...

RE: Prop spacing from cowl

Also I've heard that some spacers crack and split and throw your engine off the plane... So what kind of spacers are good and where to get them? Thanks.

RE: Prop spacing from cowl

Well the Sukhoi has kind of a yak type cowl so the middle of the blades are nearest the cowl. Also I may use different shaped props in the future so a lil extra room is probably good.

RE: Prop spacing from cowl

Woot, 200th post, lol. Thanks guy, gonna set it like 1/2-1" I guess it's better not to be too close. I never heard anyone mention anything about the spacing before, I guess it's not really that...

Prop spacing from cowl

I have a 25% Sukhoi from Sig and it has come time to mount the engine however I have never flown a plane with a cowl so I have one quick question. How far should the trailing edge of the prop be from...

RE: Aviastar 46?

Ok, well just for hoots, are 4 strokes very reliable? I've had tons of 2 strokes pass through my hands but I've never once gotten into 4 strokes. Would probably make a more scale sound with a more...

RE: Aviastar 46?

Hmmm, so a pair of nice engines from the market place here or ebay nib or something would be the way to go I guess. I am DEFINITELY not going electric so yeah I guess price is reliability. Probably...
