Ok I purchased a diode. It is 8amps 35 volts. I know I'm suppose to solder the strip part towards the positive terminal, right? Is this a strong enough diode to begin with?

I've also bought .47...

Yeah, I think it would, but you may not get the full power out of the motor if you use a mechanical speedo. Better off getting a digital one because they put more power into the motor, better amp...
