RE: Moderators wanted, what are the bennys?

Probably no benefits. It's for people who want to volunteer their time to support the success of this website. IME it's not a job for people looking for quid pro quo.

RE: Teaching to Build

RCKen and MinnFlyer have created videos that go step by step through the constuction of a trainer kit. I think they are great videos. There are many great tips. They also take a lot of the "fear"...

RE: HOW LONG DOES TOWER HOBBIES TAKE TO SHIP AN ITEM FOR YOU????

I pay by cc. They usually ship the same day or the next if I miss the cutoff time. I have nothing but great experiences with them.

RE: How many kits do you have right now?

I have to remember that one. With that logic I'm good for at least 50 kits. [8D]

RE: help with sim question

4.5 doesn't seem to work as well as 4.0 did on my laptop.

If you don't already have a plane, pick up one of the combos that comes with an AFR and an early verion of Real Flight. In hindsight, I...

RE: How many kits do you have right now?

Hmmm. I only have one. And I'm just starting it. So I guess that may really count a zero.

RE: The Long Awaited Ultra Sport 60 Build Thread

Thanks. I'll do 40 then. Maybe the 46 I have will end up in it.

Not sure why I thought 4s on the US.

Oh honey... I found something you can get me for Valentine's day.

RE: The Long Awaited Ultra Sport 60 Build Thread

I don't have a 4 stroke yet. So I have an excuse to get one. :)

I'll probably go 40. Assuming I can do flaps and retracts without a problem.

Oh man... I need help. [:o]:)

RE: The Long Awaited Ultra Sport 60 Build Thread

You guys are killing me. I have just started my LT-40 (first build) and I feel like I need to buy an Ultra Sport just in case they disappear again. She is not going to be happy with me.

40 or...

RE: First Time Covering

I am by no means a covering pro. But one thing I want to emphasize.... new sharp blades. Minn sings the praises of them in his video. I just want to echo it.

RE: Dumb building question (titebond vs CA)

Thank you everybody!

It's not that I'm in a hurry. I just want to figure out the "correct" process to make sure I do it right. (It's a hard core left-brain thing. :)) If I was in a big hurry...

RE: Dumb building question...

OK, then those who build with aliphatics... do you butter the end of each and every piece? Wings too? Frame the entire thing out, then go back piece by piece and butter? Fillet as necessary?

RE: Hinge cutting

My first crack at hinges requied more work than I anticipated to cut the covering. It seemed like I couldn't find the slot (no comments please) to open the covering.

Dumb building question (titebond vs CA)

I'm starting an LT40 soon. My first build. I am planning on not using CA.

Dumb question...

Can I use titebond (or other aliphas) just as I would CA? I know it won't fly for hinges. But...

RE: Hinge cutting

Yeah. It just seems like the PITA of cleaning out the covering to open the slot isn't worth dry fitting it.

Maybe I just need more practice at building planes. :)

Hinge cutting

It seems like the "standard" practice is to cut slots for hinges and dry fit them before covering.

Does anyboth just cut them after covering? Are there any downsides to cutting the slots after...

RE: I love SIG

I agree. I don't know about their other kits, but the manual for the LT-40 does NOT have a copy of the plans in the back. I don't know what harm it would be to make it available.

Heck, you...

I hear you. After how they took such good care of me, I don't think I'd fib to them in the future.

I was shocked they sent it to me. I was ready to email them a picture of the box of parts if...

I love SIG

I got an LT-40 kit this summer. It's finally building time. After searching the house, it looks like I have lost the manual. (I probably just could have followed Ken's thread, but I'm not that...

RE: What are high alpha manuvers?

Well done CharlieP. It's about the wing chord and VECTOR of travel. Not relative to the horizontal.

Pulling up from a steep dive is a high aoa move.

RE: Propeller question for newbie?

I have heard it recommended to use a metal edge (the back of an xacto?) to scrape off the sharpness from the production.

The engine started!!!

Yeah, it's not a solo story but I fired the engine up on the DuraPlane tonight and it ran. Hand started... Happy times. I ran through the recommended break in procedures for the OS 46. Nice...
