Seen that happen many times too, it occurs mostly when the timing is advanced beyond TDC. Seen it happen to carbureted vehicles with the ignition OFF, called pre detonation or pre ignition.

Good lipo safety practices, knock wood no issues so far. Most explosions seem to come from high current/heating charging.
