Nevermind. There were two tiny hex nuts on opposite sides, hidden underneath the fan, holding it on the spindle. I just couldn't see them. But that's how you get the fan off! Hope this helps someone...

I am wondering if anyone could tell me the proper way to take one of these units apart? I removed the screw from the center of the fan and tried to twist the fan off the unit so I can shave down the...
